Default Improving Wowpedia!

Hey guys,

I thought of this after seeing the 7 Kingdoms Thread.

I believe with the combined effort we could make the WoWpedia THE place to go for WoW lore with all the irrelevant or plain wrong entries out of the way. Sure ones can go and just look up at the source, but just today a guildie told me that WoWpedia said Zandalari trolls are standing up straight due to waters in Vale. However, I don't remember such a thing and even the entry itself is a speculation. Which IMO, shouldn't be there then.

It's just I think with more lore-inititiated people taking a part in the improvement, WoWpedia could be very best place to go for WoW lore.

I actually thought this website will have some info, (being called Scrolls of Lore etc, I though there will be pages stylized as scrolls with some hardcore nerdy lore), but turns out was just forums (which I like btw, don't take it the wrong way). I had also seen some negative comments about Insider's Know Your Lore topics. Some guys expressed an interest in contributing to the lore correctness and accessibility.

I think this thread got overshadowed by the "Casting your actors" in the bolded forum front page. As it only had 1 view. So shameless bumps! Or you people don't like WoWpedia? Like, one of the SoL inside things?

Many of our guys already are on WoWpedia, Reverant is a Mod and Ashendat is a very enthusiastic contributor as well.

I frankly cba, too much shit in my life for this. Though I'd be more then happy to give my opinion (and any sources I may know of) for any given lore topic you want to collect info on, feel free to PM me.

Oh, I see. I was actually hoping/expecting someone from here will know how to operate etc. So this is fantastic

I am very busy atm irl too. So this is why I thought thread like this will be a good starting point for us all. We will all just dump any info we have/remember and then try to put them together. Like, I say, "I wanted to add Mogu clans. You guys know any?", and then people just add stuff like "Yeh, Korune is mentioned during 5.1 questing *linked quests* and Dungeon Journal has info on Karthak and other 2 clans".

That way we are not really busy, just throwing all the little tidbits. I mean, we also have Blizz' employees twitters to clarify some little details etc. Wowhead has some good info too. It would certainly won't be as difficult.

Well there are a few things that i have to do there. That i have been putting off.

Like the List of Daily Quests. It only really misses the faction quests from MoP, which I've been putting off because frankly MoP has too many goddamn dailies.

I also need to update the background of the Skumblade tribe Article so it has the information that can be extracted from the gossip and quests(but mainly the gossip).

I also need to do the same to the Loa page with all the new information from 5.2 (Specially the Zandalari Journals)

And the last one that I remember is to update CDev questions

Help is always nice. Just add something good that is not already there.

From what I have read, SoL was originally intended to have something like that. It was deemed inefficient to compete with WoWWiki for various reasons, though a rivalry remained. Ask an older member for the story.

Revenant. The floaty elemental guys with the maces. Revrant was a disliked poster on here and Wowpedia that left very shortly before I came here. It was a bit awkward.

Ashendant, though flawed, does help a decent amount.

Yeah I was pretty sure I fucked up the names, I do apologize. Still I was close enough that he would probably figure it out.

Well, I understood what you meant. Anyways, think I will come back when I layed down what/how we will start doing this. I think we should start with MoP and move down/up from there.

I think that's the issues we can answer once we can start working on the initiative. Anything you didn't like, depending how appropriate, can be looked at etc.

Don't be evil. SoL could still work, even if it began with something "simple", like race scrolls, using all the canon sources avalaible.

Remember that project about Night Elves? That was cool. SoL has lots of potential. Some of its articles can be better than WoWpedia.

Well I'd be up for it even without the nuke.

I've had some ideas how SoL could provide a good source of lore, and I'd be willing to contribute in any way I can.

I feel Wowpedia often takes too many artistic liberties, which devalues their use of sources.

The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.

No one ever said elves are nice.
Elves are bad.

That can be fixed with editions. I, for example, redacted the paragraphs collecting all the info about Theramore City's buildings, people and culture from the novels and comics. I also separated the non-canon info.

In the process, I found very interesting things. And I think many articles could be improved using the sources right. It's just a matter of searching and then editing.

I encourage you to join and help. Or if you don't want to do that, then... why not start the Scrolls of Lore? Even with similar sources, the result can be different, don't you think?

Can anybody quote me the text that explains why some orcs have grey skin in ToW?

Dark gray.
That meant two things. One, that the orc was a member of the
Blackrock clana clan that had birthed many infamous members. And
two, that he had spent years never seeing the light of day; he had dwelt
inside Blackrock Mountain, serving Thralls enemy.

Why do orcs like the Blackrock and Dragonmaw have unique skin colors? Some speculate it might be due to ethnicity, exposure to ash or exposure to black dragons.

Why is ambiguos? It clearly says that Malkorok (and all Blackrock) have grey skin because they lived inside a mountain, never seeing the light of the day for years.

A better answer would be: "Answered in ToW: Orc skin turns grey when unexposed to the light of the day for years."

I wonder if Mag'har secluded inside mountains would develop the same skin colour as a green orc secluded inside a mountain, or a fel orc secluded inside a mountain, or a dragonmaw orc secluded inside a mountain.

No... it says that Dark Skin could be a genetic trait of the Blackrock clan, and that people with such skin colour were Thrall's enemy. It also makes little sense since the Dragonmaw clan hasn't spent years in the darkness.

Of course it could be a combination of both, that the Dark skin is a genetic trait of certain clans that is exacerbated by living in darkness but that's just speculation.

Okey... It says that a)Grey dark skin = Blackrock orc; and b)The grey dark skinned orc had spent never seeing the light of the day.

Now I see how it is ambiguos.
