Actually i did build a big wall with a bunch of people i played with, but it wasnt just a wall.

It was a mall in a wall. The mall part was my idea and it looked pretty awesome too. It had a lot of sliding doors to get into the stores and into the mall. This was at the time where the little push blocks were just coming out.

Well, does anyone have a server to use? I can resurrect an old one that I used to run if there's enough interest.

Can't you rent servers from Mojang now? A private one would probably be better though.

I haven't played in years but I'd definitely be interested in some SoL multiplayer shenanigans.

An easy way to play with Minecraft mods is to use a launcher that includes a modloader and several mod packs lumped together in various sets. These are standalone game downloads that use Minecraft's code, but get around copyright issues by forcing you to log on with an account with a purchased copy of the real game attached.

I know how to work Feed The Beast and Technic. If we decide to go this route, there are several mod packs on each, and also other launchers.

Okay... I don't know where to start considering the variety. Some basic FTB ones that I like are:

Thermal Expansion and IndustrialCraft (less so) add machines, automation, and pipes.

Blood Magic, Botania, and Witchery add tech trees.

PneumaticCraft is kind of lame, but you can spawn mobs with plants.

Twilight Forest adds a new dimension that acts like a tiered dungeon crawler.

OpenBlocks and Not Enough Items add a lot of quality of life improvements.

Tinkers' Construct takes away the beginning of normal Minecraft and revamps the crafting system to work with molds. It is fun with a finished base, but starts off very counter-intuitive to anyone who has played Minecraft before.

Avoid anything that gives you a Chunk Loader. It kills all but the largest servers.

You might want to look up on YouTube how they look put together.

I've been watching a Minecraft LP, and I can only second Revenant's suggestion to use Tinker's Construct.

There's also a mod to add Witcher 3-like fast travel, but I don't know its name.

Thaumcraft is pretty neat, though a tad hard to get into.

So there is more stuff to build with and more stuff to explore.

Thermal Expansion and later-game Tinkers' Construct are all about multiplying resources, which means more blocks to build with.

Twilight Forest is very exploration based.

Got my old realms server up and running. Just a survival world for the moment. Anyone who wants to hop on and dick around, just PM me your player name. If we want to do mods, someone will have to walk me through it.

I used to host my server through Akliz. They got many different modpacks to pick from.

Do I really need to sign up to Xbox Live just to buy Minecraft Coins? How annoying...

Is this thing happening?

I never really played Minecraft, but I remember a community I was part of, way back in the mid 2000s, collectively playing this LEGO simulator-thing that was very similar to Minecraft. It was great fun. So I could very well imagine getting my hands on the game if there'll be a group of SoLers playing together.

Well I initiated but didn't take charge so there seems to be a bit of confusion.

Saranus says he set up his server though. Revenant seems like have a lot of ideas but I am not sure if he set up a server. Yaskaleh seems to be able to set up a server.

If we do this, must we use Warcraft themed skins?

I don't personally own a server or anything that can reliably used as a server.
