Post Lore Corner (HotS/HS)

A place to discuss the more immersive elements of these games, beyond the gameplay itself.

The concept of heroes being transported to the Nexus from various dimensions. Of the differences between dimensions, such as that one dimension where Malfurion and Illidan have reversed roles.

The question of whether, when we play Hearthstone, are we likewise playing as heroes in a struggle beyond time and space? Or are we playing as our WoW characters, participating in an addictive card game in the tavern, and shouting out memetic phrases as we play cards?

I became enthralled to the premise of Heroes thanks to:

- Several fan-fiction texts about the game.
- The lil' lore backgrounds for each of the heroes and their skins.

However, I think the best for the game is that the lore remains misterious and shrouded for the most part. While I'd love to know who are the masters of the Nexus and why they are deathmatching heroes from the multiverse repeatedly, I think the charm is not to know.

In the case of Hearthstone, it is clear to me that we are playing as the PC of WoW. We even have the desk featured ingame.

Smash Bros had that whole thing with Tabuu

Anyway, I do like all the paladin robots in hearthstones latest update.

I think we should see more of those in WoW.

You mean you didn't fantasize about the characters in super smash brothers going on adventures together?

And the Curse of Naxxramas adventure? I say it's a set of Scenario Packs, with an intricate rulebook and/or some mundane magic that determines how your scenario opponent will respond. Each Scenario Pack also comes with non-random cards (the reward cards).

EDIT: Similarly, the tutorial bosses are practice battles that come in your Jaina Starter Set.

That's the first entry I believe. @Arakkoa/Xarthat played with both the notion of alternate universes and mixed it with Heroes. In his fan fiction, the masters of the Nexus are known as "The Arbiters".

It is really long and it has ended, but it is cool nonetheless.

you guys are weird. We all know there will not be anything new lore wise with this game because it is Rule of Cool: The game with no creatures.

I agree with this! My headcanon now!

We know nothing new and relevant for the respective IP will result from this.

But the premise of Heroes is interesting (maybe because I liked the premises of Battle Royale, The Hunger Games, etc) as its own IP. Let's re-check:
- We have a the Nexus, a dimensional storm located in the center of the multiverse. There are several realms of existence that have become trapped there (Ravencourt, Mistharbor and Nightshade's queendom) even modified (such as Dragon Spire turning into Dragonshire) for some unkown ends.

- There's an entity or group of entities kidnapping champions across the multiverse.

- The champions are forced to battle each other to dead, be reborn, and the battle again for them to become apparently "better" and more "experienced".

- The objective behind the deathmaches is not clear. Why is the master of the Nexus doing this? Is for its own amusement? Is it creating an army of transdimensional champions? Maybe something else?
As you can see, there is storywise potential for the game. It won't be relevant for Warcraft or Diablo, but it can be interesting for Heroes itself as it allows it to be something more than a Rule of Cool game.

Thanks for the plug. It hasn't as much ended, as it's on hiatus. The "Lords of the Nexus" concept (that was supposed to continue this after Infinite Azeroths) hasn't really worked out for me, but it's not to say I won't touch on the whole Nexus storyline if I have the chance.

Extrapolating things from bare bone sources and making ludicrously detailed deductions based on them is our bread and butter.

I'm pretty sure that the Thrall in HotS was snatched during his Third War years or earlier, not later.

Particularly with his emphasis on being warchief, mentioned in both the trailer and the description text.

Or, because HotS isn't released yet it's meant to reflecting on a period in a few months when it IS released and by that time Thrall is back as Warchief of the Horde.

Nah. Baron is right. The base skin is clearly from W3 era, just like Jaina's.

However, "Hellhammer Thrall" is really interesting:

- An Ashwolf clan?

- Durotan being betrayed by both Gul'dan and a Blackrock chieftain (possibly Orgrim himself)?

- A fel-corrupted Go'el?

An hypothesis: Orgrim, wanting to lead the Horde, pledges to Gul'dan's plan to betray Durotan when the childhood friends meet in Hillsbrad. The Frostwolf clan was later mostly destroyed.

As in the MU timeline, Thrall was eventually found by Blackmoore. However, the Alliance eventually lost the Second War and the orcish baby was rescued and raised as an orphan in the Horde-controlled Eastern Kingdoms.

In time, Thrall discovered his roots and created a new clan from the remnants of his father's: the Ashwolf. The young warlord later became the fel Warchief of the Horde after killing Orgrim and seizing his corrupted Doomhammer.

The lore for the Pharaoh skin for Tassadar is interesting.

Hope we get more skins themed after the battlefields.

Indeed. That skin is linked with Zagara's and Brightwing's Luxorian version. It seems Zagara's Scorpid Swarm was going to rule Luxoria and the pharaoh used some kind of forbiden magic to move the realm to the Nexus, preventing the scorpids from winning.

I'm speculating that "Tomb of the Spider Queen" battleground is also located in Luxoria.

BTW, I was checking all the skins last night, and I started to see connections:
- Countess Kerrigan and Vampire Hunter Vala are natives of Raven Court, one of the realms stranded on the Nexus (is featured both in the tutorial, Cursed Hollow and Haunted Mines).

- In the timeline in which Illidan became Shan'do and Malfurion became Betrayer, Tyrande became Mal's Warden and leader of the Watchers. I wonder... who became High Priestess there? Maiev, maybe?

Yeah that made me realize how perfectly Night Elf Characters parallel each other.

Betrayer Malfurion - Shan'do Illidan

Warden Tyrande - High Priestess Maiev

Huntress Shandris - Sentinel Naisha

I wonder which kind of Kaldorei society would that be...

More militaristic and xenophobus, maybe? I can even imagine druids being relegated, though I am not sure if Illidan and Maiev would fall in love.

Everyone knows Maiev was secretly in love with Illidan and she decided to guard his prison only because she felt personally betrayed by his actions.
