Disgusting that this isn't fixed yet.

Worse that infrastructure across the US is getting as bad in other areas.

Honestly things like this are so depressing, big companies have an unsettling amount of power in the modern world, we need to work on returning power to unions and find ways to stop regulatory agencies from being run by people who have a vested interest in seeing the regulations are dismantled and companies see higher profits at the expensive of the rest of the citizenry. (Ex: people like Scott Pruitt running the EPA)

Sounds like some kind of socialist communism to me, with the unions and the regulations and not profiteering. We can't have that.

A good article, I honestly think what we need is some kind of visual so people can understand just how broken the system is, put a marble signifying 100k dollars in two boxes, one for the 6 richest, and one for everyone else, then broadcast it and ask...

How do they need MORE money to give us better services?

I had a bigger post that seems to have been eating.

1.) It is fixed, technically. Has been since early 2017. The water is under EPA restrictions. In some cases by quite a bit.

2.) It wasn't infrastructure, exactly. It was poor management and implementation, combined with cost saving methods. Flint moved it's water from Detroit to their own river on a temporary basis until they could join a new provider. The end result is something was rushed that should have taken years and years (rivers are the worst water source as far as filtering and treatment goes), and the treatment facility they had wasn't up to snuff because they didn't do the research needed.

3.) While the message is still out to not drink the water and only use bottled water, much of this is protection from potential lawsuits as they update infrastructure that could probably use it anyway, even if it's not technically related to the problem.

The first step would be to implement campaign limits to spending, and remove the incentives for companies to back candidates in return for favors. Implement strict gift giving laws that people in office can except (So, you know, know big red phone they can call for tickets to the game), and other such things.

As for Unions, I'm really not a fan of unions. The United States has a bloody history with them, they are famously corrupt (Hoffa), and in the end are just another body that needs to be regulated.

With that being said, I'm actually a fairly big fan of laws that limit how much more the top brass can make compared to the lowest wrung. Eventually, the United States is going to have to move to a higher taxed populace for the rich, and while it's already true that the rich spend the most on taxes, the wage gape is so absurd that it doesn't much matter.

I've said a long time ago, my ideal plan for personal (Business taxes would be another subject and I'm not sure how to handle that) tax plans is...

1.) The first $100,000 that is brought in is completely 100% tax free.
2.) Everything over that $100,000 is taxed at 50%. So, for example, you make $200,000? Well, now you bring home $150,000.
3.) At a certain threshold, that number is changed to 75% in taxes. Sorry, you want to be paid 2 million for a few weeks of reshoots? Well, fine. but 75% of it goes to taxes.

Studies show that higher taxes "don't" drive people out of the nation, as people are more likely to stay where the best place for family and such is.

The problem is, and this is where most of the bigger problems with tax laws come in, there is currently no balance between the higher end payscale and the low end of the pay scale that allows an appropriate balance between humanity and profit.

Raising the wage you pay workers to a living wage isn't coming out of the tops pocket. It's coming out of the business profit, and thus stores get closed down, people get unemployed, and the same people making millions... still make millions.

After being fired from his WH position as well as losing his radio show and position at Breitbart, Steve "We are the platform for the alt-right" Bannon has been subpoenaed in Mueller's investigation. Seems to me he has nothing left to lose and has no reason not to help the investigation (unless he thinks he can still ingratiate himself to the president or something).
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/16/u...?smid=tw-share

Meanwhile, the right is still chasing around pizzagate and is convinced everyone from the DNC is about to be arrested by the FBI for funding the supposed child sex ring and that their assets will be liquidated and the money distributed to supporters of the president. Seriously.

And in case anyone is following the (latest) presidential sex scandal, Stormy Daniels apparently told people about it years ago. Apparently he told her she reminded him of his daughter...

A followup to the Walmart analysis earlier.

Why do Billion dollar companies pay starvation wages? How much more do they have to make before they can pay so everyone can eat?

What they make is irrelevant.
They pay low wages because they are unemployed people and low wage is better than no wage.

Whoops, posted this in the wrong thread. Moving it here.

Looks like we're facing yet another government shutdown with republicans in control of Congress and the White House. They have proven themselves entirely incapable of governing.
Mitch "the Bitch" McConnell is blaming Democrats for voting against the bill that he also voted against leading to the shutdown (if he weren't a hypocrite, he wouldn't be anything).

Fun article:
Quote:
Trump spoke to “Fox & Friends” in 2013 and was asked who would be fired during a government shutdown, as shown in a clip posted by "Morning Joe."
“Well, if you say who gets fired it always has to be the top,” Trump said. “I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president’s the leader. And he’s got to get everybody in a room and he’s got to lead.”
He said that further down in history, “when they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time.”
“They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head the Senate, who’s running things in Washington,” Trump said.
“So I really think the pressure is on the president,” he added.

I have family members saying on the televised Shutdown debates, that the Dems voted no despite the bill containing provisions for both CHIP and DACA, is this true? My understanding is that they did, but only because the extensions would only fund everything for a few weeks, and Dems want an agreement within 3-4 days.

There was an attempt to make sure military members get paid regardless of the shutdown. Mitch the Bitch objected.

From my understanding, yes, that's true.

While I'm going off what I've heard and not the debates themselves, my understanding is that temporary provisions were put in to avoid shutdown.

Take into account the college tuition, credits for working, discounts given to employees as base, special employee only discounts, a pretty good 401K and medical... Walmart pays out quite a bit more than 11.00 an hour per employee. With that being said, there is a pretty brutal circle of people being forced to shop at Walmart because the discount makes it super cost effective, and as such it returns Walmarts employee money back to Walmart. And that's shitty.

As I said earlier, I'm for percentage based pay between high and low end. Until something like that is implemented, there isn't any reason to pay people "living wage".

People are a commodity, just like everything else. Changing that mindset is what's important.

The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has ruled the state gerrymandered in favor of Republicans.

Both sides do it and it's nothing new. The issue is with how voting is done in this country.

I'm not aware of any court rulings in recent memory stating Democrats gerrymandered a state. R's have had what, at least 5 or 6 in the past few years?

I know, I know, Huffington post is garbage, but I do think this is a good example of why I don't like it when people joke about these topics.

They're always "Joking" until they aren't anymore.

Well, why aren't you fighting for voter ID then?

It's the best way to prevent fraud, and every single first world country out there (and multiple third world countries as well) have it.

Why ISN'T CNN mentioning it when the sources are on air talking about it, both are members of congress, and one is sitting on the Homeland Security Committee.

One would think, true or not, such claims from such sources openly and publicly stating them, would garner an article.

And with that you have undermined your own point. It is fucking Trey Gowdy, who was an opportunistic Benghazi witchhunter nutjob and Trump lapdog, and on Fox News. I'm sorry but this is clearly just meant to smear the integrity of the ongoing FBI investigation, just one in a long string of bullshit tactics that Republicans have repeatedly been doing since the investigation began uncovering dirt. It's attempting to deflect the investigation, much like Republicans once attempted to do once dirt kept coming up about Nixon.

One begs the question when one uses circular reasoning to rationalize a preconceived answer.

Maybe they are researching the claims before bullshitting it live on air for conservative viewerbait, who knows? But probably because there was bigger news, such as the FBI director threatening to quit under pressure from Trump and Sessions for him to fire his deputy director.

ETA: Also, CNN is talking about it, you damn conspiracy nutjob.

Different thing though. Those are the texts, which have been in the news for quite a while in some form.

Not the more specific (and understand context with talk of a "deepstate", true or not, makes this even more relevant to the conversation) charge of two congressman actively talking about secret societies.

Maybe having the rest of those texts could help shed light on what they were talking about. Damn shame so many were deleted despite existing protocol. Sure is weird how that keeps happening, you know?

The FBI investigation doesn't have any integrity. Strzok made that pretty clear. Now we've got lost text messages, a reportedly pretty damning memo, and an investigation that's tainted.

As for Benghazi.. Well.. The implications of witch-hunt are that it's over nothing. Clinton's department absolutely fucked up on it, ignored security requests, etc.

This is not a matter of speculation.

Quote:
The State Department’s own Accountability Review Board concluded that the number of diplomatic security staff in Benghazi in the months leading up to the attacks was inadequate "despite repeated requests" from the Benghazi mission and the embassy in Tripoli for additional staffing.

CNN? Do research?

Unless they plan on blackmailing people, that's a pretty funny thought.

As for the bigger news, I mean.. More than one thing gets reported on every day. I bet I know what it is! Maybe they thought it would be illegal to repeat the claims since they didn't hear about it from CNN.

But, for what it's worth, the entire upper management of the FBI should be fired and charged for sharing FISA intelligence information with private parties.

Because the US does but have a national ID card system because it's the last step before fascism/communism/zombipocalypse or something.
So what is a valid ID becomes a problem and can be used to suppress voters.

Do you even know what you're talking about? Please explain how voter ID would prevent gerrymandering.
