Default Blizzard's Portrayal of Death

I was going to post it in the WarCraft forum, but I felt this should be broader.

Implied Deaths vs. Shown Deaths

Quote:
Because of the demographic to which many of our favorite series appeal, implied deaths have become a norm in flagship pieces such as One Piece and Naruto.

In One Piece there are many implied deaths during arcs like Water 7, Impel Down, The Paramount War, etc. I mean how do you feel knowing that Luffy murdered a large number of people while trying to save his brother, i.e. the guards who fell to their deaths in the boiling water/blood, soldiers and pirates during the rescue, etc.?

In Naruto countless Shinobi die without so much as an introduction, whilst a main character like Neji is used as an emotional tool for the readers.

Do you think it’s OK for authors to use secondary characters’ deaths merely as fodder, and use main character deaths as an emotional tool? We aren’t saying that those moments aren’t fun (like when a planet blows up in DBZ) but isn’t it a little bit cavalier in teaching kids in about how little value some lives have, versus the weight that the lives of “important” people have? It would be absolutely impossible to give a voice to every character, and the deaths of the main characters have weight because of our attachment to them. Still, it sometimes bothers me that these fun-loving characters murder all the time. Just a thought.

Do you, our esteemed patrons, ever feel the same?
How do you feel this relates to their games?

Death is entirely meaningless in this franchise. They've supermanned the fuck out of it long ago to the point where it's been rendered unbelievable anyone will stay dead let alone not appear as a ghost, undead, alternate universe time travel version etc.

Cairne appeared as a ghost to advise Baine on whether or not he should defend Garrosh in War Crimes.

Plus Dranosh already came back once. For all we know we are going to meet him again as a kid in WoD.

I'd like that. I wanna see an emotional moment with Saurfang, his heartstrings being pulled and all.

There's just one problem... there are no kids of the renowned characters in WoD. There's no Baby Thrall, even tho at this point he's suppose to be born already, there's no baby Garrosh, Blackhand's triplets are nowhere to be seen as well.

Really is that true? What the hell man. That totally defeats the purpose and significance of having whats his name being dead.

Kek.

It makes sense. The race made up of Lordaeron's former citizens are on the Horde.

I almost threw the book down in frustration when I read that part, but I don't like hurting books.

Cairne was a shaman and it's normal for ghosts to show up here and there. Not a big deal.

How do you feel this relates to their games?

I think it's a realistic view of death.

At the end of the day most people don't really sweat it if Joe Blow dies in a car crash.
However, if your friend who you knew well dies that's something else.
That's something that hits home.
While you might find someone dying unfortunate (or fortunate) it's not something to cry over, unless it's someone you personally know.

But that's just me.

Like are you guys mad that Cairne exists as a ghost, or that he wasn't raging at Garrosh?

Sure, but when they tell you to defend the person who not only murdered them but whom they expressly believed to be a manifestation of everything wrong with their faction, it becomes fucking stupid.
