I'm guessing it's a lot of technical issues and he decided to say fuck it.

Which reminds me...

What is Jeffrey Kaplan currently doing? He was also working on Titan. Also, he was an old buddy of Rob Pardo since their Everquest days.

A battle between Blizzard's nepotism and its profit margin, I'd guess.

It's worded vaguely enough that this is possible, too. I just find the timing, only months before WoD's launch, to be suspicious.

They went back to the drawing board and shifted a large chunk of its team back to WoW, didn't they? That's why Alex Afrasiabi and Rob Pardo were suddenly back on the WoW team with WoD.

Last I heard, he's still on Titan.

Let's just hope that, whatever happens post-WoD, these issues get sorted out. Blizzard needs to make a rebound.

He put Titan in development hell and was about to do the same with WoD.

I wonder when he was taken down from power? I doubt it happened suddenly today. Maybe about a month ago when WoD started getting some real progress and did so rapidly.

Disclaimer- I don't think there is a conspiracy or anything

Buuuuut....
Wotlk was the last expansion developed by Blizzard under Vivendi Games.
Activision-Blizzard merger deal closed July of 2008, and wotlk was released just a few months later.

Then we have Cata and MoP.

May of 2013, titan is put on hold.
In July of 2013 Activision-Blizzard bought itself from vivendi.

November of 2013, Ghost crawler leaves Blizzard for Riot
July of 2014- Rob Pardo leaves Blizzard for reasons unknown.

Now , again, I don't think there's any kind of conspiracy here,no tinfoil hats so chill out. what I'm more curious about is how all these types of things can affect the development and leadership of a company like Blizz. How the merger effected the design philosophy, and then how buyback could influence it even more, feeling more pressure from stockholders.

Anyone have some insight to this?

TLDR - there's a fucking conspiracy.

Honestly, it seems to me blizz has an issue with veteran employees trying to piggy back on their status as veterans. Like how Pardo has, since TBC, oversaw two bits of development hell. Or how those that leave blizz for other companies, get hired based on their name, then make crappy games.

Or hell, that guy who was working on D3, who was taken off it, and soon afterwards the game was making great leaps and strides and just plain becoming the game it should have been in the first place.

Rob was screwing up WoD so he was taken off
Ghost Crawler was screwing up in general, so he was taken off

I'm not sure I'd say Ghostcrawler screwed up WoW.

He was a PR nightmare and quiet often showed how ignorant he was of the very subject he was supposed to be heading.

Maybe he was talented when they got him. But for a long time he had been a burden.

If anything he was the one who handled fans the best. He gave good explanations of what was happening, and ultimately he was part of a team, he just was in charge of giving the news.

If by handling fans best you mean be a total dick to then yeah.

I also didn't know that "explain what was happening" meant "strawman whenever possible"

I'd agree with you but I don't know if by agreeing I'd be complementing or condemning him.

GC was kinda the pinnacle of 'screw the lore' when compared to Chilton and Kosak.

Yeah but at least he was honest. That's what I appreciated.

True, I liked how he was honest.

My issue was that he had no filter. He was that ass hole people know who is honest in a rude way because they just don't know when to keep their mouth shut.

Okay nobody is worse than Kaplan when it comes to 'screw the lore'. Nobody. That guy ENJOYED not placating to the lore and his bit on the WoW anniversary thing was basically 'fuck WC3's story'.

That guy did not care one bit.

I dunno what Chilton's stance is.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Pardo was game director on WC3, TFT, WoW and Burning Crusade, I don't know what his contributions were specifically but in interviews and stuff he always brought a lot of passion to the project. I sort of associate him with Metzen and Samwise as being the old-school core Blizzard so this is kind of a shame.

Chilton's one of the bigger fans of the lore and was the one behind the Jade Forest change.
