Mana The Religion Thread

Mithras was supposedly born out of solid rock, depicted as either a youth or a child, usually armed with weapons. I don't think a manger is involved.

Mithras didn't have 12 disciples. Though he has been drawn with the 12 signs of the zodiac.

Mithras never died. Thus was also not buried for 3 days.

You'll be hard-pressed to find a god or demigod story that doesn't perform miracles.

A lot of the near similarities (e.g. shepherds) are not in the early Persian accounts, but in the later Roman versions that came after the time of Jesus.

The solar vs lunar aspects of Christianity and Islam are not cut and dry. Both, while stemming from Judaism and other religions in the Mediterranean basin aren't carbon copies nor did they steal whole cloth from them.

Didn't we have a religion thread that ended up closed because everyone was hyper-aggressive, even by SoL standards?

The last religion thread was generally a friendly place.

Christianity started as a cult formed around a blood and thunder preaching Jew peasant who banged on about the soon coming end of the world (that has yet to happen) and the hellfire and torment that would follow for everybody who didn't listen to him and believe.

I think the Church of the Holy Light could use more development, as well as creating more knightly/paladin orders for diversity's sake.

And I still don't know (or forgot) what it's symbol is supposed to represent.

What reasons would you have issues with them if not for religion?

I think he called them "bug chasers" in the past, so maybe his beef is with the conspiracy which holds that all gay men are actively trying to spread HIV/AIDS to bring down western civilization?

Yeah, he's not against gays because God told him to be. It's just the pure, unadulterated hate in his own heart.

1. Overrepresentation in HIV cases.

2. Fag woman overrepresentation in partner abuse.

3. Other acts like drug abuse.

Among other things.

I always thought the Church of the Holy Light should have some heresies and schismatic groups.

What's the "blood and thunder" part?

While I can't speak for the earlier pages of the thread, the tone of the later pages was indeed quite civil, as you said.

Except most gays don't abuse their spouses. We need to do more research on the subject.

If you need divine punishment from an imaginary friend in the sky to be a decent person, I tend to consider that you are not, in fact, a decent person. Just saying.
