Still, interesting...

Seems a bit much for a patch.

That's clearly what it is though. This video is specifically targeted to China, which is where all these "WarCraft 3 HD" leaks/rumors were coming from. Assuming the engine can support it, it's not unreasonable to think they might go back in and up-res all the models over however long ass time it's been since the last patch. It's a lot of work, but *shrug* - maybe they want to re-sell the game akin to WarCraft 2: BNE or something. This is a fairly easy thing they can do without making changes to the engine (again, I assume) or code or maps. I wouldn't be surprised if they re-rendered the cinematics as well, or perhaps just updated them to be higher resolution (presumably they could just pull what they recorded for the Collector's Edition DVDs).

Edit: I will also link this:
http://kotaku.com/warcraft-iii-gets-...s-a-1764540336

I can't see the video myself yet (stuck at work, will watch later) but:

In the video Bridenbecker says the update is "only our first stop," suggesting more updates are on the way.
It's possible they will slowly update the game in incremental steps or something too.

Well, from what I understand, it's been four or five years since the last patch, and in china Warcraft 3 is still a huge thing. Now, what/if they have something in store besides engine tweaks/balance changes, we have to wait and see...

BTW, I dug up the original GameSpot article so I'd have something to retweet

What's interesting is they mention Blizzard created a "Classic Games Division" (which is probably old news but it's something I missed) specifically to maintain their old games. So they are clearly dedicating bodies specifically to stuff like this, meaning it's certainly feasible they are going a little above and beyond here (again, like I said, perhaps with a marketing strategy in mind... they do have the WarCraft movie coming, what better time to promote WarCraft games of all stripes? WarCraft 3 especially is probably a bit easier and less scary for a newbie to get into over an online MMO)

Oh man, look at that Jaina model! Those icons are also fantastic!

Edit 2: God, this better be real. I am getting myself crazy hyped for this.....

Sorry to be a hype breaker buuut...

Do you mean this Jaina?

If so, isn't that just the model from HotS?

Ah, I suppose it is. Though they could just be reusing that model as well.

As I said in the other thread too, it wouldn't surprise me if the sudden addition of War 3 hero units to the SC2 editor was work they were doing for this.

Isn't this just a patch to make it compatible with W10? WC3 is still pretty popular so it makes sense.

I wouldn't be really that surprised for them to update the game visually and lend some models from HotS in doing so.

That's pretty much nothing, no graphic changes yet it seems.

Please be aware that while we are working on a balance change and new map pool, that work is still in progress and is not part of this patch. We?ll have further details on that as development progresses.

Balance changes confirmed happening.

You can say that again. I cannot for the life of me think of why they'd do this so suddenly.

Maybe they're taking a page from AOE2 and planning on releasing another expansion way down the tracK?
