No utopian/ideal version of anything will ever work, that's just not in humanity's nature.

Nonetheless, that's not the question. The question is, what of the available systems works the best? And I am sorry, but it is certainly not communism, nor is it socialism. It might not be pure capitalism either, but if there's one thing good about capitalism and the market economy model, it is that they can be molded quite a lot. We just need to sort out how.

I always had a certain fondness for Cuba, standing its ground against the world, going its own way, there is valor and beauty in that. Of course I wonder if the people of Cuba themselves would agree with that, I don't trust the US narrative on Cuba but sadly I never got a chance to visit and learn for myself. And now likely I never will. I think now that Fidel is gone Cuba will fairly quickly become like all the other countries, doubly so because the US can't afford to have a Russia-friendly country right next to it.

Speaking of Communism, it is probably still impossible but ironically now closer than ever. I think all you need is to have good infrastructure (both social and physical), lots of production and lots of energy. When everything is easy and cheap then one is to hope we will abandon Capitalism and unjust master-slave relations. But of course the master part of that problem does not terribly want that. What we should be focusing on as societies is building machines and machines that build machines as well as sources of vast renewable energy and not engaging in simple trade and consumerism. The former will set us free the latter will ruin us.
But the time is not right, technology is rushing there but has not yet made it. And those in power don't want to set people free, they like their control, fame and privilege.

Anyhow this news has put in me in the mood for some Buena Vista Social Club:

Well, a great man left us. Is action was imperfect, but it was still better than the tyrants who came before him.

Trump has not been inaugurated yet and he has already killed Castro.

We are spoiled as shit in capitalistic societies. I don't know how you could say we are oppressed in a material sense when we have so much stuff. Even poor people have flat screen TVs and smart phones.

Reinhardt 11-26-2016 11:11 AM

As always people forget Pol Pot.
He had a small country to work with but in % he killed the most.

You ignorant piece of shit. Castro was a monster. You have no ties to Cuba. Shut the fuck up.

Frostwolf 11-26-2016 11:58 AM

I know I'm double-posting, but fuck it. You cannot begin to come close to understanding how truly enraging it is to have had family members killed and imprisoned by this commie cunt and soft, spoiled lefties in Europe/Canada/USA/etc. are heaping praise on him. Calling him a great man.

Absolutely ridiculous. Imagine if I was telling Frenchies that Hitler was a great man just a few decades after WW2. They'd be more upset than I am.

He means nothing to me personally but I support your rightful joy over his demise and your justified wrath over the cunts that praise him.

So of course our Prime Minister eulogises him. Fortunately the internet had an appropriate response.

It's always weird when I agree with Frost. I keep expecting to see a news broadcast saying scientists grafted wings onto a pig or something.

What he said.

Maybe people that fawn over Castro think it makes them edgy or enlightened because being contrarian is in vogue in their respective social circles. Communism is how counter culture young people be cool.

Also, I'm not. Capitalism and communism will both fail every time they're attempted.

Capitalism hasn't failed yet.

I don't know of any capitalist countries alive right now. Most have a lot of socialist tendencies like public roads and a state-run military.

Those things aren't socialist. All capitalism is is private ownership of industry. Individuals own businesses instead of the government. You need a strong military and public roads in order for businesses to trade with one another and not have to fear having their wealth stolen.

When Bernie Sanders called Denmark socialist they got offended and defended themselves.
