Maybe he does not need a cool sword, but he needs his hook expanded. Such taunting with him...

Can you guys do me a big favor?

See if you can't round up a big list o' Jinyu names for me and let me know if there's any sort of pattern or naming convention... if any of you speak Chinese (Curll?) and these names have translations, that'd be an even bigger help.

Additionally, if you could search through the Jinyu, Hozen and Grummle NPCs in game and let me know what titles their leaders tend to have, that'd be a huge plus, too.

For shame Oma. Japanese, their phonetics and vocabulary is played off of Japanese. Actually, Orifiel and Bryn are the go-to's on this one.

I speak a bit o' Japanese and nothing seems to directly translate, hence why I'm asking if any of their possible names have any correlations to other languages. It's looking like the Jinyu have just Japanese-esque sorta names, as opposed to the Pandaren, who have many names that just directly translate to Chinese.

The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.

No one ever said elves are nice.
Elves are bad.

The only pattern I see here is the use of hyphens for names with a two letter prefix. Which is absent in other names. "Sharpfin" is unfortunately out of place as it uses the noun noun standard name scheme something I'd much rather see absent as it's been over used as it is. Thats all I've got for observational notes on this location, they should stick to the hyphen formula, it's refreshing.

As hinted by one of the lore objects, should each one have a title in their name? I haven't looked for any of the objects myself yet... so I'm only going by vaguely remembered second-hand information. Most of them do have a title or attribute before their name, but not all.

That's why I said for shame, I figured you'd be on top of the islands stuff. But...considering WoW-China, I can believe they'd go the extra mile for them and skimp on the Jinyu's.

Either that or we're about to see some quest/character designers very pissed at you for bringing up their laziness to the devs.

Using Wowpedia for grummles results in
Nephew Bentnail
Big Greenfeather
Black Arrow
Bluesaddle
Lucky Bluestring
Brother Brokendice
Nephew Burrberry
Little Cleankite
Clover Keeper
Clovercatcher
Uncle Cloverleaf
Cousin Copperfinder
Cousin Bag-of-Rocks
Uncle Eastwind
Lucky Eightcoins
Full Flask
Brother Furtrim
Golden Snow
Cousin Gootfur
Half-Eaten Fish
Hawktail
Trader Hozenpaw
Uncle Keenbean
Brother Lintpocket
Cousin Mountainmusk
Mushan Pie
Herder Muskfree
Brother Oilyak
Old Hat
Brother Rabbitsfoot
Fixxit Redhammer
Slimy Inkstain
Snowshoe
Smokey Sootassle
Stained Mug
Sweaty Glove
Cousin Tealeaf
Trader Jambeezi
Unmelting Icicle
Whetstone
Wishbone
Wooden Spoon
Brother Yakshoe

These guys names seem kinda unoriginal, like their parents just picked the first two thing they say and stuck it together to name their child...

There's actually a pretty cool reason why their names are like that, but it doesn't seem they have a unified word for a leader like "chief" or "poobah".

Yeah i kinda got that after awhile i hope we see that cool reason

also sorry misunderstood you, you want the names of leader not the names of every grummle

Seems like Grummles are really into tradings and families, so i'm speculating either Trader or Uncle for leaders names...

Sorry again

Hey as a quick addendum, where can Jinyu be found? Just Kun-Lai and Jade Forest?

Don't see why not so far that reasoning hasn't applied to any water-dwelling races or species. I mean, there's saurok in the ocean for god sake.

Sauroks need air to breathe though, don't they? They just hold their breath and try not to drink too much salt water.

They are iguanas, what do you expect them to do? They probably hitchhiked or the wandering isle is nearer to pandaria than we think.

I guess we both understood each other wrong... I thought you meant that they couldn't swim that far, and you probably thought that I had said that they held their breath throughout the whole journey. (I just meant during the time they spend submerged)

Those names don’t look all that Japanese to me. Some of them couldn’t even be written in Japanese. “Fujin” can be a title for a married woman, among other things, but I doubt that’s what they were going for. The names that do mean things could just as easily have been random syllables that somebody thought sounded Asian.

Edit: The double "s" seems to be a pattern. Though again, not very Japanese-sounding.

They should just make the saurok afaceless ones again, really tied into the fact the cataclysm is what revealed pandaria

No I understood it right, I was being a sarcastic douche a little since in my mind the use of Saurok there is idiotic and nonsensicle. It strikes me as all ill thought out use of a resource just because it's new. So many other things would make some modicum of reason, but I suppose it's supposed to introduce the "Mogu" threat. So yes, it does seem that the saurok travel long distances through the ocean by tail, lived in the ocean all along, or used some sort of teleport spell with bad aim and dropped themselves in the drink.
