Default Reaper of Souls Lore Question

So in Reaper of Souls, Malthael turns evil and wants to eradicate all demons and humans. That's the plot, yeah?

With Itherael being the Archangel of Fate and all, could he have seen Malthael's fall before it happened and warned the other Angels so they could change the future?

Something that was really bothering me.

Thanks!

He's not really evil. Otherwise, Tyrael's sword would have hurt him.

The angels were, very likely, not warned. Book of Tyrael makes it seem that way, at least.

Well I mean, of course I he isn't actually evil. I meant that by the fact taht he wanted to kill all the humans.

I know the Angels weren't warned, but why wouldn't Itherael be able to see this coming?

I mean even he voted with Auriel as well as Tyrael to spare humanity...

Oh yeah, totally missed that "could".

He probably wanted to let fate to run its course, which is what beings in his position seem to do. Changing the future is a task reserved for the nephalem.

As more and more things tangentially involve Sanctuary, the Worldstone, humanity and the Nephalem, it may be harder for Ithereal to get a good bead on how things will turn out. Given that Maltheal's actions are incited by events connected to all four, the Archangel of Fate may have little to no idea of what's going to happen.

Fortunately, despite being the Archangel of Fate, instead of reacting out of anger or disapproval to the uncertainty introduced by humanity, Ithereal generally comes across as more intrigued than afraid of it.

It's kind of interesting in a way, to consider that while Imperius in D3 and Maltheal in RoS freak out about the perceived dangers of what's unknown, the guy who's spent his entire existence knowing how events will unfold doesn't treat the onset of uncertainty like it's a catastrophe, but rather seems more curious and perhaps even anticipatory about not knowing what's going to happen next.

That's really interesting, and I never thought about it that way.

Itherael, the guy who knew that the Eternal Conflict would end in Hell's victory, was probably the least paranoid creature of all time. Kind of funny.
