-Punished Jack-

-A samurai denied his past-

It better have a definitive ending. Love the contrast of colors in the snow scenes.

Why does this feel like old news? Anyway I should rewatch the show so I know what the hell's going on in this new one when I watch it.

Some thoughts:

Giving birth to seven daughters and then getting back to work... wow.

A redemption arc for the singled-out sympathetic daughter, or something else?

Random off-screen sword loss. Okay.

Killing a comedic villain early on is clear symbolism.

So in episode 2, I enjoyed the extended reference to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

But I can't help but wonder how many people actually caught it, considering the movie is over fifty years old. Classic or not, I don't know how likely it is the target audience is going to catch that kind of homage.

Kids shows have always had adult humor and references in it that goes over the heads of its target audience. Even shows directed towards teenagers and young adults have stuff that only 40+ year olds will get.

I don't have regular cable access, is there a good place to buy these episodes?

I really want to know who the horseman is that Jack keeps hallucinating about. Might be he's the reason he no longer has a sword?

I also love how the stalemate has affected Aku just as it did Jack, though in his case it's much more silly.

Default Remove foolish samurai blyat

So that kill was brutal. It feels so weird though to see an actual human be cut down even if the previous seasons were pretty violent as well.

Aku sounds fine although I don't get why the Russian accent. The accordion music didn't help either to not make that association. I guess they didn't have enough time to search for an old Japanese VA.

Jack talking to himself about committing seppuku was the saddest part for me. It's not everyday you see an old cartoon character break down like that. He's definitely not getting a happy ending, or going back to the past. I guess the shadow samurai is a personification of death and Jack running away from his fate, that of joining his dead ancestors. Apparently it ties in some Japanese mythology with a someone's failures being redeemed upon his honorable suicide and being granted peace in death.

Ah dang man spoilers I was thinking Aku was dead or crippled after some fight with Jack and that's why he didn't just swoop in on him while he doesn't have the sword.

Bah, well, I knew it was a long shot

Well shit. Sorry for that. We might need a spoiler warning in the title because I'd like to discuss things openly here and not have every post consist of nothing but black bars.

If I remember correctly the episode where Jack was fighting the Guardian showed us that Jack eventually will return to his own time.
