I don't get it.

After saw this thread I read its info on wiki, my reaction is: Some people just have too much time to attack others.

I didn't know what it was, so I googled it. First thing I found was an article about how sexist videogames and it's consumers are.

At this point, I'm not even surprised anymore.

Gamergate totally misses the point of the issue..

Who the fuck cares if Quinn or whatever sleeps around? And?

It matters that she did so with her boss, her reviewers, and others in positions where she had something to gain.

It's about fucking corruption, not sexism, and somehow the sexist crowd got it all tangled about.

Zoe Quinn seems like a shitty person, but that's as far as her involvement goes. The actual controversy is over how incestuous the gaming "press" is with the people they're supposedly covering, most especially the indie scene.

It then spiraled out of control when so many websites blocked all discussion of it, thus fanning the flames even more. Unfortunately, the whole thing's been muddied since a bunch of neckbeards made misogynist insults, and the SJW's seized upon that to try and frame the whole thing as evil manfolk harassing poor maligned Zoe Quinn. Then Sarkeesian threw herself into the mix to get some publicity for her new video, and here we are.

Gamer gate is about improving games journalism, outing unethical behavior and removing political commentary. Video games is about video games, not someones social and political agenda.

Social justice fuckwits are backtracking whilst insulting others as well as using minorities and gender queer(???) people as a shield to protect themselves from criticism. Hence #Notyourshield.

But the gamers obliviously lost their focus by attacking all of those who support her. They should focus and make clear what they are criticizing rather than let people think they are some angry mob.

Without actually watching the video or stepping into this arena, it should read "Death threats against whom?".

At this stage, most of my disgust is directed at the neckbeard scumbags who've covered up for Quinn, and turned any legit concerns/posts/blogs into "UR FUCKING SEXIST PIGS!" - a 'good' example being that masterdouche Phil Fish.

These "people" are twats of the highest order.

But seriously, the gaming press (such as it is) and its reaction throughout all this has been embarrassing.

What it is is proof that geek and gaming culture isn't mature and ready enough to be taken seriously.

Which is a shame, because it's A) not really true, and B) only because the worst of the worst of this community always seems to jump forward first.

I'll just say that #GamerGate is the biggest pile of crap I've seen in awhile. I had to unfollow a bunch of people on twitter because they were filling up my twitter with this crap.

The dumb thing is, a lot of the general principles some of these people have I agree with. I would love to see more games with strong female characters, etc. That is totally cool. You don't get there by bitching about how terrible and sexist *all* gamers are because Ms. Pacman has been "marked" with a bow (oh noes!). That's the biggest problem I have with those Anita videos (besides the fact I just hate the word "tropes" in general).

The sleeping around for good reviews thing I honestly couldn't care less about. IMO, whatever, probably not far removed from what publishers do to get good reviews on their shit (see: GameSpot).

I mean, all the death threats or whatever are awful, but welcome to the internet. It's full of horrible people.

So I don't know. I'm just sick of all the white knighting and hysteria over this.

Edit: That Ed Morrissey video is pretty good (except the parts they call Kotaku authors "journalists".. lolz
