Yeah... before I edited Option 3, it said

So. Outlawing automobiles has shifted the Tirasian government from a "Father Knows Best State" to a "Corrupt Dictatorship".

Somehow, heart disease has shot down dramatically. And in government expenditures, funding for Public Transport and Environment has entered the scene. The former has risen from nowhere to become the second-largest expenditure after Administration.

I look forward to seeing what happens when our smash-the-corporations-because-we-aren't-a-democracy decision goes through.

The Rogue Nation of Kul Tiras
Category: Corrupt Dictatorship
Civil Rights: Good (58%)
Economy: Fair (29%)
Political Freedoms: Rare (19%)
Population: 32 million
Capital City: (unlockable at 250 million citizens)
Classification: Rogue Nation (customizable at 500 million citizens)
Leader: (unlockable at 750 million citizens)
National Religion: (unlockable at 1 billion citizens)
Currency: the gold coin
National Animal: the king crab
Motto: "Daelin was right." (VOTE TO CHANGE!)

Overview
The Rogue Nation of Kul Tiras is a small, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its ban on automobiles. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 32 million are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The enormous government concentrates mainly on Public Transport, although Law & Order and the Environment are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 35%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Door-to-door Insurance Sales, and Furniture Restoration industries.

Elections have been outlawed, organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region, and cars are banned. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to a well-funded police force. Kul Tiras's national animal is the king crab, which frolics freely in the nation's sparkling oceans, and its currency is the gold coin.

Question

So when we take so long to answer issues, a substantial queue of them starts to form. I'll throw up some choices for the next issue, in case people want to vote on what to vote on. If people don't vote on this, I'll just go to the next issue in queue.

Kul Tiras Decides

The following issues confront Kul Tiras:
  • Military Demands Increased Spending
  • Minorities Demand Representation In TV Soaps
  • Child Casino Shock
  • Information Technology Workers Strike!

I notice I've been locked out of the control room. I suppose you probably guessed as much, but it was not actually my intention to evict any member of the World of Warcraft or indeed even to flex my political muscles overmuch.

Yeah, this is true. Nature is an imperfect machine. In the Wildstar beta I came across an audio log which had a line I thought was just the coolest thing and I believe sums up the Gnomish perspective on the matter. Some Eldan scientist muses that "I generally consider nature to be little more than a blind invalid playing games of chance." Gnomes are philosophically inclined to correct imperfection wherever they can, and this naturally should extend to the environment: a confused mess of competing interests and flawed designs.

However, the issues are almost always phrased as a choice between either a) wanton pollution and environmental destruction, or b) save the trees. And although Gnomes are not particularly enamored with trees, neither are they Goblins.

I do apologize.

But I'm not worried about you. I'm worried about the two or three invader nations who learn the password, wander in, endorse one of themselves as the new candidate, evict me and anyone else they want to, change the password, and declare a successful conquest.

After banning democracy again, our nation is at rock bottom for political freedoms. Crime seems to have dropped a smidgen. Other than that, no discernible changes.

Issue: Information Technology Workers Strike!

The Issue
Workers across the nation have gone out on indefinite strike over what they claim are substandard wages in the Information Technology industry.

The Debate
1. "We are the backbone of this country, and we demand a fair wage rise!" says union leader Alandewey Dridivh. "I don't think a 20% increase over two years is too much to ask. Unless the government forces employers to give us our due, we'll shut this whole industry down! Let's see how well Kul Tiras's economy manages without any Information Technology, huh?"

2. "We pay our employees very generous wages," says employer representative Callierdys Pridison. "Especially when you consider that without us, they'd be OUT ON THE STREET. Hear that, you scumbags? OUT ON THE STREET! Anyway, my point is, if you cave in, you make our entire industry uncompetitive. You can't do that in the global marketplace. It'll hurt the whole country. The best solution, economically speaking, would be to relax industrial laws and allow us to fire troublemakers on the spot."

Orb of Venom

I suppose option 1.

Incidentally, I was glancing at the Tinkertown Sentinel just a moment ago and found this interesting article:

"Reports indicate that several neighbouring nations are engaged in major weapons programs in contravention of international law and treaty, focusing public discourse on Tinkertown's foreign policy—specifically, its position on preemptive strikes."

Hmmmmm.

Does anyone have a confession to make?

Tinkertown remains the least corrupt nation of the World of Warcraft.

It's also got a powerhouse economy, in spite of an average income tax of 49%

Our last decision was to support the Information Technology unions. Our economy took a tiny hit with a teeny tiny growth in the Public Sector, but our population's life expectancy also saw a slight increase. Somehow.

So hey! I waited so long to update this, that we have a population high enough to name an official CAPITAL CITY. This wasn't a thing back when I played in the early 2000s. Apparently we have to wait for an issue to pop up that will give us the capital city. I'll make sure to target it when it appears.

I'm tired of seeing "Daelin was right" as the national motto. For now, I've replaced it with the motto of the Azores: "Rather die as free men than be enslaved in peace". That basically means the same thing as saying Daelin was right. But we can change it if we have consensus to.

Issue: Child Casino Shock

The Issue
Children as young as eight have been spotted gambling in some of Kul Tiras's seedier casinos.

The Debate
1. Social activist Jorobelyn Opheriany is outraged. "Gambling needs to be outlawed immediately. It's no wonder children are becoming sucked into the vice, with adults setting such a poor example. Gambling is a stain on Kul Tiras's international reputation and it must be stopped!"

2. However, Crown Casino chairperson Wartherenn Berthon says, "What's wrong with children gambling? It prepares them for the realities of life, teaching them that success or failure is not due to hard work or intelligence, but the roll of the dice. Besides, if kids weren't gambling, they'd be spraypainting trains."

So Kul Tiras died from lack of use, because that's what happens in Nationstates after you get bored with it. I brought it back to life.

Anansi, did you want it?

Considering there are unlikely to be any trains in Kul Tiras, Jorobelyn's argument is obviously more sound.
