Default Armor of the Broken Isles

Let's talk armor:

First off, I think it would be fabulous if we had venders in our order halls, giving us nice class based transmog gear, possibly oriented towards each of the races that are part of our orders.

I imagine leveling gear will be mostly Kaldorei Imperial era elvish armor, just like WoDs leveling gear was all straight up orcish.

Then there's dungeon and raid gear. Some beautiful Nordic plate from the halls of valor and Hellheim. Then there's some more elvish robes and armor in Surumar and black rook hold. I'm not sure what to expect from Emerald Nightmare.

Any other thoughts?

Just like the Broken Isles, the armor will just come in one large, solid piece.

And this single piece will be the only armor in the entire expansion with no armor drops anywhere.

I'm hoping for some nice Highmountain sets. Been a while since we had good tauren gear.

Heck, might be an excuse to finally add that tauren paladin tier set.

Could be good. Could drop in the Lair of Neltharion perhaps?

I'm not sure, they seemed to want to start moving away from "enemy-themed armor sets" towards the end of WoD, though I'm not sure whether or not that was supposed to be a long-term change.

It seems pretty likely to me that they'll want to focus on "the class fantasy" and probably link them into the Order Halls more closely. If that's the case, I just hope they try and find a way to preserve some of the racial flavor, too.

Since they're revamping the transmogrification system and removing the barrier between PvE and PvP sets, I think we might actually see some pretty interesting changes to the way they design gear.

For example, if the new transmog system allows us to unlock alternate color schemes for gear, they may no longer tie those into raid difficulty.

So they could have, say, a base paladin set, with seperate textures/palletes for Silver Hand, Hand of Argus, Blood Knight, and Sunwalker flavor, and perhaps also slightly altered helm, shoulder, and belt designs.

Then they can distinguish raid difficulty and PVP prestige by adding additional adornments to the base armor. Sort of like the Master Skins in HotS.

Probably would be too big a job for the art team, but... hey, so are Artifact Weapons.

I would actually wear that just to annoy other players.

Aah, generic drop then.

We never really talk about the more generic armour sets, do we? Always the raid tiers, perhaps with a little bit of dungeon and pvp.

I like that Blizzard have started to make entire sets since Cataclysm in quest rewards, stops me looking like rainbow spunk. I don't usually outright hate any of the quest reward gear either, most of it can be thrown in with other bits from all over to make a really good transmog if you put the effort in.

I know it's to make the details on the armour look better, but I don't really like how everything is slowly getting bigger and bigger. I half expect the next paladin tier to make me look like a neon fridge tbh.

I really love that MoP horde cloth quest mask. It's glorious.

Technically speaking, quest rewards were almost always from actual sets. It's just that the various pieces were rewarded nowhere near each other, sometimes certain pieces weren't available at all and the cloak, helm and/or shoulderpieces for many sets were never made.

And yeah, the constantly getting bigger is kinda worrying, especially for the classes that aren't supposed to be that bulky. Fun fact: The tuskarr model has default tiny scaling for the shoulder items, leading to many sets looking better on them than on the actual playable races.

Speaking of scale of armour, remember this lovely bug that went unfixed for several weeks, if not months?

If we had transmog back then it probably wouldn't have been that bad of a problem, there wasn't any incentive to hold onto gear for the looks; you have no idea how much I kick myself for selling the blood tempered ranseur way back when.

I'm looking forwards to Legion for the gear however, there's a great variation in NPC races around so if any of the gear is based off them then that's good; we'll get a good mix of Vrykul, Elven, Tauren and demonic looking stuff. I need a wee bit of a break from the SPIKES and TUSKS and HORNS and SKULLS of WoD's bland shite.

I do, I played an Orc around that time. It was both hilarious and sad.

That's not a bug, that's a fix.

You know you're able to request items you've sold back from a GM, right?

I know a lot of Dwarf RP'ers do it for the Raptor-Hide Leggings that match the Mountaineer set. Not many people hang onto a random green Level 30-ish quest reward.
