Medivh Puttin' on the Ritz - A Fashion Thread

Because why not?

Nerds such as us aren't known for our sense of fashion. Let's prove people wrong. In this thread you can share your thoughts on fashionable clothing, ask for tips on appearance for your upcoming date or job interview, or just show off your newly purchased attires. All without feeling ashamed. Because seriously, who gives a shit about some nerds opinion (or anyone else's for that matter) about your preferred look?

Do you dress snazzy and stylish? Casual and laid-back? Like a fucking bum? Or do you just grab whatever is available in your closet that feels comfortable? Tell us about it, why don't you?

Myself I vary in style quite a lot. One day I put on a three-piece suit, a colourful tie, and stylish shoes (or sneakers matching the tie). The other day I put on a flannel shirt, dirty jeans, and shoes that are so worn down they're hanging on by tiny threads. And some days I just put on pyjama pants and a T-shirt. Because diversity is king. Now it may sound like I'm some kind of fashion freak. Quite the contrary. I don't care much for fads and what other people think looks good. I dress in clothes that I find good-looking myself, as well as comfortable.

I love ties. I've got a couple of dozen of them, all in varying colours and patterns, for all imaginable occassions. And everytime I visit a men's clothing store I hang around by the ties, dividing and deciding which one I need for my wardrobe.

Here's a collage to show off my general sense of fashion.

I try to take interested in fashion to improve on my character/costume design.
Other than that I talked about my clothing in the international politic thread already, so I guess I could start talking about the situation in Ukraine here...

You gotta good sense of blending casual with dapper. I dig it.

I get really into my wardrobe but I don't have a whole lot of pictures that show it off, and most of them are selfies lul

Most of the summer is like this: I like color blocking!

simple! I really like colorful pants and I own quite a few:

Daps. I love that vest with the hoodie a lot, it's so absurd

Then also tons of stripes, I love stripes a lot

This is a Good Thread

I wish armor was making a comeback. I've seriously been considering wearing chainmail every day but I'm not sure if it'd be gauche to do so before or after labor day.

I like colors that compliment my complexion, which is dark brown hair and olive skin. To that extent, I'm fond of blacks, dark browns, navy blues, and various shades of red, green, orange, and yellow.

Also wear gray and black jeans as well as blue.

Couldn't really say I'm a fashionable guy, don't wear very expensive clothes but I do always try to look my best when I leave home.

No one older than 14 should ever wear cargo shorts.

Men who wear skinny jeans may as well be wearing their sister's pants.

Depends, they're not my thing but that's because I'm not built like a pencil.

Slim-fits are fine imo, though.

Anyone who cares about what other people wear to the extent where they feel the need to mock them should get their priorities in life straightened out.

Also, skinny jeans are sexy as shit. Especially if they're colourful. Pori's pants, for example, are hot as fuck.

Sweet kicks I got in Amsterdam 2 summers ago. Starting to show their age, but I still get compliments.

I love trousers that transform. gets hot? shorts. gets cold? Full lengths. Medium? 3/4 length , friends!

I also looked into my wardrobe today and realised I had no t-shirts with sleeves. I only wear sleeves on important shirts, and only then.

A t-shirt by definition has no sleeves. If it does, it's just a regular shirt yo.

Wait, isn't it called a "T-shirt" because the sleeves and the body form the letter "T"?

IIRC, the t in 't-shirt' comes from tank shirt, as standard white t-shirts were part of the military uniform of WWII tank crews. That might just be half-remembered bullshit though.

If T shirts weren't short sleeve shirts before, language has evolved to the point that they are now

No I think not. T-shirts are regular short-sleeved shirts without buttons.

That's pretty much what I'm saying. I googled it though, and it looks like the t in t-shirt doesn't have anything to do with tanks.

Here's a conundrum for you guys and gals, when is it appropriate to wear a trenchcoat and a trilby?

...When the coat's not leather and it fits the damn weather. Otherwise, take your hats off inside ya damn whippersnappers.

Cargo pants on the other hand are mandatory if you're hiking.

If someone's skinny enough to wear them, far be it from me to criticize them. The problem is more that 99.999999999% of the population isn't. (Note: I advocate idiots wearing them anyway so they can speed their exit from the gene pool).

I'll outright admit, I wear a formal trenchcoat and trilby all the time. It's always associated with formal/semi-formal dress though, and I don't do it as a fashion statement. I wish folks would figure that out more, fashion should always be functional first and style second.
