Darkmoon Card: Heroism Underrated Characters

Who are the most interesting, fleeting characters that you think have gone unnoticed or under-appreciated by the Warcraft fandom? (Garrosh Hellscream need not post.)

I think the best example is the Guardian, the revenant from Warcraft 3 that tries to stop Arthas from picking up Frostmourne. He's a pretty heroic figure to me because here's an elemental, a kind of character that we don't see often, that has decided of its own free will that this horrible thing in Frostmourne Cavern is nothing but bad news and is willing to be destroyed trying to stop it from hurting anyone. That's heroic. If he had a class it would be earth-warder; someone that's trying to protect the world itself. And he has one of the best dying quotes in Warcraft 3:
The Guardian: Turn away... before it's... too late.
Arthas: Still trying to protect the sword, are you?
The Guardian: No... trying to protect you... from it.

Who would you say?

Orb of Lightning

I feel a distinction must be made between characters that are underrated and characters that have large fan followings despite limited presence in game. Hence, no Daelin Proudmoore, Calia Menethil, Theldurin the Lost, Millhouse Manastorm or Wilfred Fizzlebang (Master Summoner).

Warriv.

Mephisto. He really needs more screen time whenever he gets around to rezzing.

General Duke. Alpha Squadron would never have been so sloppy.

Ulrezaj. Seriously, what happened to that guy?

Fenix. Raynor x Fenix for LIFE.

Naisha. Naisha x Maiev OTP.

That one Gnome.

Aszune.

That one other Gnome.

Anetheron and Mephistroth.

Dornaa and the other one.

The blood elf girl in Thousand Needles, her story is quite tragic.

Underrated characters or characters we wish we knew more about? It seem to have turned into the latter. I agree with the OP, Smoke and the gnome mentions.

We really never learned his motives. I do not think that we did...

I'm kinda reading into it, yeah. But I think I'm judging him(?) more on by his actions than his motivations, he was the guardian of Frostmourne. He was trying to protect Arthas from it, that's what I think is so incredible about his character.

Former, characters that might have made a brief impression on the franchise

Undead Icon (War3)

Also Leonid Barthalomew because he's another example of heroism in unexpected places

I don't think good ol' Leonid is a good example. As an undead he's just as warped and corrupted, evil and negative as any other SoL poster or him a heroic character. It makes him a master troll.

Jadaar and Asric. Adorable bromance and a surprising amount of character development through TBC and into Wrath before they got forgotten.

Sally Whitemane. Everyone just remembers her as the first female human boss with the revealing clothes, but she is actually an incredibly powerful priestess. Just think about it; we've been told that resurrections are very rare in the Warcraft universe and that only powerful individuals can perform them. Well, Whitemane hasn't resurrected just one individual. She has resurrected herself - a feat no other mortal seems to be able to replicate - and most of the other Scarlet Crusaders that fell during one of the many attacks the Scarlet Monstery crew had to face!

Just another case of gameplay over story. The power of resurrection is just a fancy excuse of why they're still around after all this time because Blizzard couldn't be bothered to replace them

True, but even before that, she was the first character who canonically revived someone. She was always more than a pixelated ass, but nobody wanted to see beyond it.

Orb of Lightning

The OG Cerebrates were pretty boss. Especially Kerrigan's guardian angel. It's a real damn shame we don't see even a hint of their existence in SCII.
