I hate buying old games online, for quality and upkeep reasons, but nobody around here is getting any Super Metroid in their stores. Anyone have any trustworthy places to hunt such treasures?

Help me!

No doubt Japanese games will still be huge in 2020...

"Still be" implying that they are now.

You joking? Japanese games are still selling fine. Just because you're not a fan doesn't mean they're not; I don't like Halo or Assassin's Creed for example but I don't deny for a second that they're popular.

With that said, goodbye.

The Japanese game market has been pretty stagnant since the PS2 era. Even square had to merge to stay afloat. There's definitely far less output from Japan now than it used to be a decade ago.

Well it also didn't help Square almost killed itself with Spirits Within. FF14 is what ended up saving that company.

Besides Square (not doin' too hot), Capcom (not doin' too hot) and Sega (not doin' too hot) and discounting Nintendo and Sony as they're at least equally as hardware focused as they are on games, how many Japanese developers can you name?

Well sure, but stagnant and dying aren't the same thing. Not to say Japanese companies are doing as well as western companies, but I'd hardly expect them to be gone in 5 years.

Definitely. Actually, I didn't realize that 2020 was only five years away when I saw that. For some reason my brain just had a fart and assumed 2020 was still the far future.

I don't expect the Japanese game industry to be in good shape by 2030 though, unless something changes.

Eh Squares actually doing pretty well now due to FF14. Sure I can't name many Japanese companies but that's mostly since Japanese companies are more than content releasing just in Japan or the Asian market. Hell that's why a ton of Square RPG's over the years haven't come to the states.

Doesn't Square handle bringing CoD to Japan?

They still have franchises people jump for like Final Fantasy (yes still), Kingdom Hearts, Persona, Tales etc. If the Yakuza titles actually came out over here i am sure they would to but they stopped doing so after 4 so they could make more Yakuza titles rather than translating them. Not to mention the likes of Pokemon and most titles Platinum games come out with although those are the only ones i know of myself.

Lets all be honest.

Nintendo could make nothing but Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid, and Animal Crossing for the forseeable future and still be a stable company.

A Metroid game is way over due, especially for the handhelds!

I know! I don't want to get Super Metroid on the Virtual Console, I have our local retro store hunting a good quality SNES copy.

If I'm not mistaken then Nintendo plans to release 2 Metroid titles for the Wii U. One in 3D like the Prime series, and one in 2.5D.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Shipping's a load of bullshit.

Enjoying Styx: Master of Shadows.

First level's a bit crowded though.

Oh no, people picturing characters happy together, surely it is the decline of western civilization.

1.) Hyperbole. I think it's obnoxious, but it's hardly anywhere near the worst thing out there.
2.) Obsessing about which fictional characters are going to bang is rarely a healthy activity. There's speculation, and there's shipping.
Don't get me started on those who ship actual people.
