Gold (War3) Favorite Main Dwarven Clan

Poll approaching.

You might have noticed that I'm recently remembering my fondness for Gryphon Riders, the hearty dwarves of Northeron who at one point had more in common with the elves of Quel'thalas than they did with their cousins of Khaz Modan.

Before the lore gave us Magni, Muradin, or Brann, we already had Kurdran and Falstad.

You should have allowed us to pick more than one option. Gnomes did sound good too.

Dammit Gackle, why must you make me choose? The dignified industrialism of the Bronzebeards, the fiery rowdiness of the Wildhammers, the quirky inventiveness of the gnomes... it's Sophie's Choice I tell ya.

Bronzebeards suck, dark iron are plot devices, wildhammer are the only choice

Did you leave your future High King's clan out on purpose?

I'm kinda... meh on the Dark Irons right now. Maybe they'll grow on me eventually, but for now they aren't gonna compete with the other three options.

Just that you're a Dwarf fan, dude. The type who would check all three of the top choices repeatedly if he could, yeah? There's nothing offensive about it; I just knew it was a topic you'd likely have an opinion on.

(And though we know you enjoy the Moira lore we've gotten recently, your signature was a pretty fair indicator of which way you'd vote when pushed to it!)

Moira is Bronzebeard.

All Dwarf is Bronzebeard Dwarf.

Imperial Bronzebeards best.

SOVEREIGN IMPERATIVE.

EDIT: And sorry for appearing defensive. I'm just feeling like that after I got smacked over the head out-of-the-blue in another thread for daring to have a favourite race I enjoy talking about.

Is this a good time to muse about how the Warcraft III Gryphon Riders scream: For Muradin!

You know what? I just had a headcanon broken. In my mind, the advent of gunpowder weapons was a relatively recent but gradual development.

Ironforge and perhaps Gilneas creating basic functional cannons, no more than a decade or two before the Portal opened - a precious secret guarded from the rest of the world. Then having that basic cannon technology spread to the Humans and the Horde during the Second War, through allied trade and enemy conquest respectively. Then, at some point during the 14 year gap before the Third War, having Ironforge alone be able to advance that technology to the point of handheld rifles. This would explain why we saw riflemen in the Third War, but not in the two before it. The technology hadn't been invented yet.

But alas...

I like to imagine the First Horde went "WTF IS THIS" when they first met dwarven riflemen. Both Bronzebeard and Dark Iron.

I don't think guns are very strange or intimidating when you come from a world where shamans and warlocks can hurl lightning and fireballs.

I'm going Darkiron because who doesn't love their small greedy selfish buggers to be greedy and selfish? also they tend to have the least terrible voice acting (some of the terrible attempts at sounding like a Scot in Blood in the snow make me cringe).

Did I say strange or intimidating?

The fact of the matter is the majority of dwarven soldiers would have been armed with rifles and pistols, and all I am saying it would be nice if that took the orcs by surprise at first. Not all of them are shaman and warlocks after all. The comparison is not really the same.

It's not the power of the weapons that would be surprising, it would be the sheer numbers of them being used.

Wildhammers, now and forever. High elves + Wildhammers = forever bros, should be a fact in warcraft.

I picked the Gnome option, but really I think I like the Dark Iron best as they least resemble the typical Dwarven trope.

I personally hold the view that the fact there is a High Elf lodge in Bronzebeard territory also hints at fairly favourable relations between that clan and High Elves also. Also the fact that it was a Bronzebeard Ambassador that was sent to the Blood Elves at the start of TBC.

Additonally! The Bronzebeards have even let Night Elves settle in their territory.

I like how the whole dwarves hating elves thing has been completely ignored in WoW. It's a breath of fresh air really. They seem to get on better than humans and elves do!

Opposites being foes are an old and tired trope. I prefer when opposites compliment each others. Which is why Hinterlands is my most favourite area in all of wow. Wildhammers, high elves and Draenei fighting side by side against undead, trolls and worse. Can you find three races who are more disimilar?

Voted Dark Iron, they strike me as having the most potential out of the Dwarven clans right now. (Possibly largely due to the fact that the other clans have been explored well already, leaving just the Dark Irons who need some development.)
