The issue isn't that the narration is cheesy (even if it is) it's that it's lazy, and that it's all about TELLING the audience something. Brood War intro has characters interacting, and telling us things without telling us anything specific.

The Brood War intro is great. Great setting up of atmosphere. Good minimalist use of action and some pretty good character writing.

This is just a trailer where 'hey this is what gameplay might look like if it was pre-rendered!'. I really don't care.
I feel mentioning the Khala as the thing that makes them unbeatable, just prior to Amon corrupting the Khala is pretty good.

Apparently I got in the beta... but I have no idea how to apply it to my account. The battle.net games list shows it there but theres no download listed. Theres nothing on the launcher either and the email they sent me just gives me the install for Starcraft 2...

Should be in your region selection.

Instead of America you can pick Beta.

That's just telegraphing the plot... it's only worse because they've heavily advertised that they wind up losing the khala.

I didn't hate it. The dialogue set up some themes.

Was that a glimpse of judicator art? I liked that.

Heh, before I got to the end of the video I was wondering how they managed to make it worse ... I don't like the Shaohao burdens clips

Yes it could be more contrived, looking at their other exposition dumps in recent years ...this seems less bad then again it could be just the lack of Kerrigan :
