Default Organizations of Solcu.

Here I am again ! With this thread, I wish to create very specific organizations which don't belong to one nation, one people or even one religion, but who work to prevent certain threats to arise (Vampire, Possessed, Necromancers, etc...). The goal, here, is to create something which could work at a semi-global level (for instance, it could be a group of Täjaran and Ashtari putting their grudges away while trying to prevent their people to be corrupted by dark powers, or Aldash and Goblins trying to prevent the ancient ruins in the desert to be desecrated by fool adventurers).

The Guard of Shadows :

The Guard of Shadow was founded 1257 years ago, when two squads of Ashtari and Täjaran who were ready to kill each others freed a dark power lurking in a nearby cave. The thing which was then unleashed killed six belligerents and flight to a close elven village. There, case of vampirism began to appear in the following nights. The humans and elves, determined to defeat the creatures who had killed their friends banded together to kill it. When they discovered the state of the town, it was already too late for their prey had disappeared and they had to purge the village to the last man, woman or child, except for five people who had already stand against the corruption of their fellow by the dark power.

After those traumatic events, the survivors swore that they would work together until the defeat of the power they had unleashed and that only then they would resume their war. Since they had to deal with a horror lurking in the shadows, they would have to hunt in said shadows, while guarding the inhabitants of Täjara and the Windlands safe from the creatures they called vampires.

Alas, since that time, the Guard of Shadows never managed to find the creature they call the Father of Vampire and more and more of those creatures were created by its power, thus leading to the continued existence of the Guard.

Your Guard of Shadows sounds quite similar to one of the sects of Heliset whom hunt and slay undead and those who awaken and bind the undead. Undeath is a blasphemy in the eyes of the priesthood of Heliset.

But they are multi-racial and very single purposed : they only hunt what they call vampires (who may or may not be what we -creators- will call Vampirism when we work on that), they don't really care about other threats.

Just wanted to point out that such an organisation already exist among the wind elves, an organisation which isn't secret. I just haven't posted about them yet, still figuring out a few details and such. The elves would most likely in such a case use the täjaran soldiers as bait or sacrifice to end the dark being or to allow atleast one soldier to escape and inform the priesthood of Heliset.

Arath's Eyes
Much is uncertain about the group calling themselves Arath's Eyes. They have been active for at least four hundred years, scouring the world for powerful gemstones and magical artifacts. They have little concern for collateral damage, and have been known to leave villages and towns in ruins after seeking out what they want.
The exact location of the Eyes' headquarters is unknown, but is presumed to be hidden somewhere among the many mountains across Duraleka. Members of Arath's Eyes have been documented to include wind elves, dwarves, humans and leprechaun, all thought to be outcasts of their own societies and kingdoms.
Not much is known about the group's founder. It is said Arath is an immensely old magi, presumed to be elven of some form. Many believe Arath may sit on one of the largest, most valuable collections of magical artifacts, some of which keeps his body young and healthy. However, since nobody alive has seen Arath, it's all speculation and rumors.

Ok. In fact, I had in mind with the Guard of Shadows that it is a very little organization (rarely more than thirty members across the world) who have personal reasons to hunt this "breed" of vampire and don't really care about other threats, even other Undeads. Therefore, the wind elven members of this group would respect to other undead hunters but would still operate on their own for personal reasons. Obviously, larger organization which would learn about the Guard would probably seek to use them, destroy them or incorporate them into their ranks, depending of the goals of said organization.

@Aneurysm : I like your idea of outcasts from every civilisation. I think you could even add some Urshari from the Windlands.

The Scions of Täj :

The Scions of Täj is the common name given by the Empire of Täjara to a true plague in their empire since centuries, maybe even millennia. The Scions aren't really one organization but more a wide movement of rabble-rousers and miscreants from the lowest casts of Täjara who are deeply xenophobic and against the presence of free members of "inferior races" in Täjara. They claim that it is the presence of said species which is undermining the mighty Empire of Man and that Täj created Man to rule above beasts, and that other species are nothing but beasts.

The Scions of Täj are also known for their hatred toward some kind of slaves, such as the elven slaves from rich families who often live in better conditions than the poorest of the Täjaran and the Urshari's slaves because they claim that the fact that an inferior race managed to enslave and "corrupt" (for they see the amethyst pupils which are a characteristic of Urshari -and Kaaradi- slaves as a proof of degradation of the human race) is a blasphemy and an insult to Täj.

During centuries, the Scions were a problem in some cities in the oldest part of Täjara, in the east of the continent, but the authorities managed to somehow keep them in check. However, in the last two decades, when the Empire began to fight against its own corruption to rise again as a bastion of purity, some officials began to saw the Scions as a tool instead of the danger it was, not realizing that if left unchecked those dregs of humanity would in fact weaken even more Täjara by turning the non-humans subjects and even the slaves in a state of anger toward the inaction of the authorities.

In the last five years, things have begun to take a turn for the worst when the Scions get new leaders who wished to "purge" Täjara by taking direct and definitive actions against the non-humans, thus leading to mass murders of said other species. While some races feared to react, believing that acting against the Scions would turn the Empire against them, the Urshari didn't care about such dangers and reacted to the murders of their people by true rampages where anyone known to be an acquaintance of the Scions was slaughtered, even children and elders. The fact that the Empire didn't immediately crushed the Urshari, thanks to their usefulness, gave courage to other species who have began in recent months to fight back against the Scions; actions who, obviously, bring more people in the arms of the Scions of Täj, who are "proven" right when the beasts murder their "natural" masters.

The Empire of Täjara is thus stuck in a dilemma where doing nothing will only bring more deaths but where picking a side will turn against him either the Scions or the non-humans.

The Grimwater Raiders

Centuries ago a group of Blodtorstigor raiders were exiled by their kinsmen. They had grown into a vile sort, having resorted to the worst of villainies. Canibalism, trophies made from their victims, mutilation, abuse and worse against any and all, women and children. None were spared their deranged pleasures, which infuriated the leaders of the Blodtorstigor who tried to destroy them. The vile raiders barely survived the purge and became independent raiders of all the seas of Solcu. In time they allied with other exiled murderers and psychopaths, forming a huge networks of crime and murder throughout all of Solcu. Smuggling, slave trade, piracy, assassinations, nothing was too vile for the raiders that would name themselves the Grimwater Raiders. The worst came about when they jonied forces with the largest syndicate of stale elves and exile dwarves, the Greypatch triad. Lead by Greypatch the beardless, a deranged imperial dwarf who had converted to the Trinity of Shadows.
All civilised nations and empires of the world has put a high price on the raiders, seeking their end though so far the raiders have eluded it all, striking out from hidden covens and islands on all continents.
500 years ago they launched a massive attack on the wind elven city of Landsluss. When the elven and human defenders finally pushed back the vile raiders had half the city been put to the torch, many tens of thousands murdered or carried off to become slaves, food or worse.

I thought I'd start with the vilest scum I could imagine . Think of them as the worst of the worst, exiled by even the most oppresive regimes because they were too damn disgusting even for the most blackhearted dictators. Though instead of being all cliche and having them be 100% chaotic evil I instead thought it would be interesting if they were smart enough to realise that they could be even more vile and successful if they banded together.

Next will be a bit more nice, the equivilant of octoberfest in solcu, started by an organisation of wind elven, imperial dwarven and leprechaun artists and musicians.

Though I gotta go so that will come later tonight.

Edit:
Leadership of the Grimwater Raiders:

Many vile scum have lead the many arms of the raiders. Wind elves, jungle elves, leprechauns, dwarves, humans, goblins and ogres, all races and species can be found amongst them and anyone strong and vile enough can climb the ranks.
The triad section of the raiders are different though. Greypatch and his shadowy right hand have lead the triad for more than 500 years. It was their plan to raid Landluss.
Greypatch the Beardless have lived several dwarven life times. A sworn thrall of the vampire god, blessed with his gifts. With the apprearence of a walking corpse, the ghoulish dwarf feasts only on the flesh of living children, their youth keeping his old carcass from rotting.
His right hand inspire even more fear. Rahldemar, a stale elf of schwarzkronen ancestry. He is rumored to have lived for over a millennium, a gift from his lord, Asmodis. It was he who converted Greypatch to the Trinity, though why he was content with following the dwarf is a great mystery.

The Stormbreakers

Functioning as a semi-autonomous wing of the Awaii’ki (the confederation of islands the Orcs live on), the Stormbreakers compose one of the most powerful naval forces in Solcu.

Soon after Make’ha’s death, a monstrous tropical storm threatened to wipe out the burgeoning Orcish nation. The call was sent out, and the finest shamans they could find were assembled. They chanted and played the spirit drums in the capital city for 7 days and nights, but nothing seemed to slow the storms slow approach. They sacrificed boars, and danced until exhaustion took them, but it was to no avail. Finally, just as extinction seemed inevitable, a young Orcish Shaman, still fresh out of initiation, had a vision. He labored over a forge, and created runed iron manacles imbued with the strength of his ancestors. He clasped them on his wrists and ankles, so that the storm could not carry him off. His face was painted in charcoal, and the fat of a leviathan, so the water would not cut at his eyes. Donning the traditional cape and sash of the shaman, he set out, on a swift war canoe. Meeting the storm head on, a mighty battle ensued. The young Shaman fought tooth and nail against the maelstrom, and he used every trick he knew. When the Storm sent forth lightning, he caught it in his manacles, and used it to fuel his spells. He bent the wind backwards, and sent it against itself. He drank the rain, and let it heal his wounds. Finally, after three days of battle, he entered the heart of the storm. It was there he came face to face with the mighty typhoons spirit. Bloody, but unbowed, the Shaman tried to make peace.

“Oh grand tempest, why do you do this?”

No answer.

“Oh powerful squall, what is your purpose here?”

Still, nothing.

Then, the shaman realized something. The spirit didn’t even know he was there. It was too busy fighting with the air and the sea to notice him. That was when the shaman realized it was no natural storm, but a malevolent entity who seeked to do harm. And with that, he slowly paddled up to the spirit. He opened his body, and prepped a grand working. He ambushed the evil thing, and bound it to his own mana. The power that surged forth was almost too much for him to bear. It seared the fat covering his skin, and burned the manacles into his flesh. He passed out, and was found floating among the wreckage of his war-canoe several days later.

After returning home, the Shaman realized he could not stop another storm like that. So he founded a new order, one that took only the best and strongest. An order of Shaman and Sailors, Warriors, and Smiths. The Stormbreakers. Now they patrol the seas, and maintain peace among the spirits of Awaii’ki. Whether it’s pirates, beasts from below, or a Tajaran invasion; there is no threat they will not face.

A little long, I know, but still. I'm also not certain if a Tajaran invasion is something they'd face. Maybe? If not, substitute it for whatever Empire happens to be nearby.

The New Goblin Empire doesn't have many boats in the world oceans, it's mostly focused on the seas of Jebraks, and the ones that do are more alive than boats.

On naval threats from Jebrak that I made that can threaten the orcs is: the new goblin empire bio-boats, the Mountain King that wants to conquer the world's spine, the goblin sea raiders from the frozen south, and I guess the southern kingdoms.

Time to revive this with the Dogs of War !

The Dogs of War are an old, and extremely famous army of mercenaries, hailing from Täjara some 800 years ago. At the origins, they were only an handful of ragtag scavengers and skirmishers helping low nobles in the Eastern Old Lands, which were embroiled in centuries long vendettas and feuds. However, the first of their true leaders, today known as Täj's Bastard, a nickname which could come from either is incredibly sharp and instinctual comprehension of warfare, or his incredible size.

Under the Bastard leadership, the band rocketed from farmers-in-arms, rapists and thieves into a true army, well organized and comprised of roughly 8000 warriors. With such at power at his behest, the Bastard led them from the Eastern Old Lands to the Täj'madal, the Gift of Täj, the fertile plains of Western Täjara, where the Dogs of War became incredibly famous as a disciplined and effective forces, with a strong sense of loyalty for their actual briber, for since their leadership of the Bastard, it is said that the Dogs never broke a deal, once it was paid. Such were their renown that even the Emperor decided to use them, as a vanguard in the Yalekan Colonies, so they could spearhead what the Empire though would be a simple pacification of the Rebels in the colonies, but which ended as the true spark of the Independence War in the Colonies.

During all the life of the Emperor, the Dogs of War fought in a land they didn't know, with almost no allies, but when the one who was a child when he brought them died, they chose to broke a deal with the rebels and their Wind Elves bakers, and fought alongside them for the duration of the Independence War, accepting Thaman, Revolted Täjaran colonists and even Wind Elves in their ranks. Since those days, the Dogs of War are hated traitors in Täjara, but respected in the Windlands, the Kingdom of Thama, the Waii'ki Isles, and even Jebrak, for they sold their swords in all those places during the last five hundred years.

As of today, the Dogs of War are lead by Ra'talan Five Eyes, a former Aldash Landwarders, who rejected a life spent in the shadow of the females for the thrill of wandering war. He greatly reformed the Dogs, by creating a Council of Advisers, comprised of the five 2000 men Commanders and the three intendants which are :
  • Helmut Swiftblade, Commander of the Black Hounds, the most elite warriors of the Free Company, a Wind Elf swordself.
  • Rokuro the Wise, Commander of the Silent Hunters, the vanguard force of the Dogs, a Thaman warrior.
  • Drabal the Twisted, a Goblin Engineer who led one of the three Packs, the simple combat divisions of the Dogs of War.
  • Aolani the Tall, a huge Orc female, renowned for her size, strength and brutality.
  • Izel the Savage, a Jungle Elf warrior-poetess, whose grasp on strategy and tactics are well hidden behind a façade of savagery when it comes to outsiders of the Dogs of War.
  • Kalidas Gold-tongue, the Intendant charged with negotiations, a disgraced noble from Täjara.
  • Katark the Miser, a Kramatak female, who is the Treasurer of the Free Company.
  • Yasamin the Crafter, a female Thaman from Täjaran origin, who is tasked with the equipment and craft necessary to the Dogs of War.
