The WoW beta build was just updated very briefly to 8.0.0.25338 but reverted back to 7.2.5.24937.

If so that's gonna look super cool once it's finalized.

That is impossible, yet not improbable.

It's hilarious how the Spike of interest Warlords of Draenor gave the Vanilla WoW scene has all but evaporated and now shit like this is happening.

Yea when this shit blew up last year it was obvious it was just due to the mess WoD was. With Legions success and the shit the Nost people pulled earlier this year it's once again just a small minority of people.

I always sort of knew that this was true with those 10-14 month long droughts, but seeing it laid out like this bums me out and takes a hell of a lot of wind out of my sails for BlizzCon hype.

Quote:
Legion announced August 2015, released August 2016
Warlords announced November 2013, released November 2014.
Mists announced October 2011, release September 2012.
Cataclysm announced August 2009, release December 2010.
I really don't see how we're going to avoid another long drought if our best case scenario is an October 2018 release. That's 13 months of Argus (and whatever minor supplementary patches they have).

Sure, it'd "only" be 11-12 months of Antorus, but... that's not really comforting either.

I could see some staggered content; a new 5man, a small ruby-sanctum style raid and some solo content, maybe a faction to grind, released between now and 8.0.

That would help a lot, to me. But the question is whether if they'd actually make stuff like that or go full-bore on the expansion. It's reminiscent of when they cut 5.5 to rush out Warlords of Draenor.

(I say "rush".. it still was a 14 month content drought after SoO came out. :s)

And now we go back to step x where i point out the big circle about stuff leading nowhere, yet you guys probably dont see it or are not paying attention to it, once again the "we have had this discussion where the same things are posted once more, and we are going to keep goin g to the other nodes in this giant labyrinth of posting in threads."

as for Retail vs Private servers:

I'll stick to the expansion coming out around late August/early September 2018.

WoW team is much larger this time and has shown ability on releasing steady content this time.

Date of reveal has little to do with date of release. It will depend on how far they've gone in development right now. We will be able to take a better guess when Beta starts and we can check in what state the expansion will be by then.

Given that private servers are known for continuously releasing new content, you must be right, Gurzogling.

To be honest, a longer content drought may not be so bad. I'd finally have time to focus on other games or have more time to earn the mage tower artefact appearances.

I'd honestly expect the expac by June at the latest barring development snags. WoD was an all around mess that released later than it was supposed to and then got dropped pretty quickly after release which hasn't been the case with Legion. At this point their entire team seems up to speed.

I expect minor questlines but, while possible, think a Ruby Sanctum raid is unlikely (which I think Ion also said was unlikely). I'd say a new 5man absolutely won't happen though

WoW is at its best during content droughts imo.

I expect late August at worst. Bar Cataclysm and WoD, which were development blunders, there was always a 21-22 months long gap between expansions, and seeing how smoothly Legion goes, I can't imagine them going beyond 24 months. I could even imagine a June release date, but something tells me Blizzard would not want an early summer release. In any case, we quite certainly won't get the expansion the next November, that would make the gap the longest there has ever been, and that seems rather unlikely.

One thing I think Blizzard may do this time is release the pre-expansion patch earlier, maybe apply the 77 days "rule" to it. (thought 11 weeks is a bit too much. Maybe 60 days?)

So, they could bring people back earlier and give them time to adjust to the new systems, and use that time to finish higher level content that will only be available later.

This could be particularly interesting if this expansion is indeed about races and includes improv customization/sub-races. The larger pre-expansion period would allow people to try new characters.

77 70 63 56 and 49 are the only possible in amount of days for content atm

Of course 49 days is quite a short time.

Think 12-15 weeks might be good. if we get some extra feature per patch.

Patch notes mention raid release will not be with patch release. Also thus far no raid schedule has been put out. It is worth noting that the Emerald Nightmare, Nighthold and Tomb of Sargeras raid schedules were posted at least 2-3 weeks before the raid opened on normal/heroic difficulty. As no raid schedule has been put up yet its safe to say the raid won't be out before Blizzcon but that much was clear already.

As for how long the expac will last it is worth noting there are 3 more seasons worth of PvP prestige icons that were datamined in 7.3. Assuming pvp seasons stay the same length of 11 weeks for each of those 3 seasons, the pre-patch won't be for almost 8 months and then another month for the pre-patch itself (so 9 months). Of course that is working on the assumption whether or not they stick to 11 weeks per season or whether they decide to use these icons, so a lot of "what ifs".

Antorus is likely going to be November 28th with mythic on December 5th. 5 months would be the 21st but that's Thanksgiving week.

We'll prob get some info on a 7.3.5 during Blizzcon.

Pretty interested to see how they frame the expansion presentation, w/r/t the Antorus conclusion, Silithus, etc. I don't see them spoiling the end of Legion, but I also feel like the impact of the reveal will be diminished if it's lacking enough context.

Yeah I'm curious how they'll handle it. We've had expansion reveals before the final raids before (like MoP before DS) but the wound in Silithus seems like it's going to be too important to 8.0 not to mention.

They may just refer to it. Typically the people that go to Blizzcon or watch it are the same ones that pay attention to data mining.
