Default The Bolvar-Sanctioned Q2 2015 Earnings Call Dumpster Fire Thread

I'm sticking to my initial forecast. More catastrophic subscription loss. Lowest subscriber numbers since Vanilla WoW.

I figure they'll try to deflect and point to how HotS and Hearthstone are making up the difference.

But it's going to be bad.

There's a reason they're announcing the expansion so soon. Numbers will be bad, and there will be no "other MMO launches" excuse this time. They fucked up by themselves.

The don't do last-resort-announcements, Lon-Ami. Those things are long in the planning.

My bet is 6 million subscribers. Would like to see more, but WoD's content is indeed a bit too lackluster for too many people.

Or maybe point to the pay for subscription time using in-game gold.

I wonder if we'll actually see some actual higher up "resignations" due to this?

We should. But I don't know if we will, unfortunately.

Even if my gross prediction was off a bit, the conclusion was accurate: We're at the lowest numbers we've seen since a year before TBC launched. It's catastrophic by any sane measure, and yet I'm already seeing apologists all over the place spinning it like it's no big deal.

It's a big fucking deal. It's a full regression of the last ten years of growth.

They need to go back to the formula that worked in TBC and Wrath: Lots of raid and 5-man content. That's what people want for their end-game, not shitloads of chores at Sunsong Ranch or their garrison.

Free-to-play will be the next expansion's big feature.

The way I see it, the people interested in those earning reports dont particularly care, as long as they still get their damn profits. Proof of that is how they soften the blow by explaining wow is down, but the other games are up. Not gonna say it aint bad, cause it is, but for this meeting is not as catastrophic as it is for the wow fanbase.

Still I hope they get their shit together, its been a long time coming to this.

It better be at this point. Blizzards gone out of their way to experiment with free to play models in their other games and they have to proved sustainable. They tried to have their cake and eat it too with the Blizz Store. They tried to see if people would pay for no content. They even raided expansion costs then provided bare bones content and stripped down everything else. It's the only thing left to do and honestly should have been done before all the others. The next expansion will if they have any sense be built off ghost of the assets they scrapped over the years on their wasted projects and unfinished content.

I doubt the game is dying in the way of making no profits though.. They are still far above everyone else so i doubt F2P could be coming but i could be very wrong. This next expansion could lay the foundation for F2P for sure but its a strange thing to realize just how MMO's in the traditional sense are dying off but there features are being added in most Multiplayer games these days .

The only one seemingly doing well outside of WoW now is FFXIV which is just content with the numbers it has as its a big success for them compared to other companies that would panic then go F2P. I doubt there will be higher ups leaving though that seems quite far-fetched for a company like Blizzard to do.

They are to be expected people always shout it from the rooftops. FFXIV is around about 1m subs atmo or even less and is a huge success with profit margins . WoW probably makes more now than ever with the success of its store to boot. I hope WoW grows in subs though after this upcoming expansion if not then i could see them going F2P.

I am just excited for the upcoming conference myself .

Well i am just a feminine man i would say . I just like to stay positive i only play WoW when new content approaches or when i want to level again but i do not damn them like others even if i do not play the game as i used to. I was disappointed with 6.1 quite a bit but i just moved on to another game after i had done the content rather than get upset about it like others chose to do. The story is all i care for so its all i do at this point if Blizzard did more with PvP i would be more inclined to stay.

Not all bad though my breaks from this game when content has not been there lead me to the world of Persona and Danganronpa which are easily my favourite games of all time outside of Blizzard content.
