For the record:

• Starcraft 2 was announced at the WWI in Korea in 2007. (Because all three games were effectively announced at the same time, the expansions don't have specific announcement events after this.)
• Diablo 3 was announced at the WWI in Paris in 2008. Reaper of Souls was announced at Gamescom in 2013.
• Warcraft expansions have exclusively been announced at BlizzCon, in '05, '07, '09, '11, and '13.
• Hearthstone was announced at PAX East in 2013. Curse of Naxxramas was announced at PAX East 2014, and Goblins & Gnomes was announced at BlizzCon '14. Blackrock Mountain was announced at PAX East 2015.

So with that in mind, the pattern appears to be the following:

• Major Starcraft announcements will likely happen in Korea.
• Major World of Warcraft announcements will likely happen at BlizzCon.
• Major Diablo announcements will likely happen in Europe.
• Major Hearthstone announcements will likely alternate between PAX East and BlizzCon.

Something else that's notable with this pattern is that WoW expansions happen in odd years. BlizzCons '08 and '10 didn't have major announcements (they announced Wizard and Demon Hunter as additional classes for D3), there was no BlizzCon in '12, and 14 focused on Overwatch, GvG, and the Legacy of the Void cinematic reveal. So one could suspect that major Overwatch releases might end up being prime announcement fodder in even-number years.

So, interesting/weird detail... when you're in Kilrogg's death-realm-thing and see the vision of the future with Khadgar, he's in.. Sylvanas' throne room? It's labelled the 'royal quarter', and it's clearly Sylvanas' throne room with forsaken barricades erected around. I don't see Sylvanas anywhere, just Khadgar and a shit-ton of demons.

Foreshadowing that unless we take out Sylvanas as soon as possible we'll all die because of her?

Actually, it makes me wonder if it’s foreshadowing whatever plot turn is going to come at the end of WoD, namely how they’re going to reconcile the AU and MU link. It could be that this is our fate if the two universes stay linked, thus forcing Khadgar or whomever to sever the link and forcibly change fate. Or it could mean that severing the link somehow dooms MU Azeroth, forcing us to pull AU Draenor into the MU.

Having is be Sylvanas’s throne room kinda eliminates it being AU Azeroth. The Forsaken wouldn’t exist in the altered timeline if Ner’zhul never became the Lich King.

I can't disagree with that. However, I am slightly in doubt in Blizz's ability to grow a pair to decide to kill her off, to overcome the hateboner of her fans and to write a credible story meanwhile. Unless they manage to do all three combined, any faction leader — including Sylvanas — should stay not dead/ousted.

Why do people presume the AU and MU's link will be broken in the first place? There's no real need for it, if they just want to stop the AU from becoming relevant again they can just not have visitors from there. It's not like every expansion from now on MUST be on Draenor just because it's there; that'd be like basing another add on on Outland. Or revamping Classic zones; don't be silly, guys.

There are plenty of spookier rooms in the Hellfire Citadel raid they could have used, which would have made a lot more sense within the context of what Khadgar is saying.

Is that a Horde raid? Maybe the area is faction dependent? It would explain the "King of Stormwind Anduin" npc that was datamined.

To be quite fair, I'm in the "Ehhh..." camp about GamesCon. If WoD didn't have its final raid tier in development right now, I would of course be in the usual BlizzCon camp, expecting GamesCon to be Diablo 3 or Hearthstone. I know we're all cynical about the time between expansions and Blizzard's ability to actually deliver on a shorter time span, but the only way I see them avoiding it this time is announcing it at GamesCon.

I'm actually more surprised they didn't move BlizzCon forward. Wasn't it usually in September until a couple of years ago?

The other option is announcing it at GamesCon, but with very barebones information; a trailer, a setting, perhaps a couple of announcement features, but basically black out all DETAIL until BlizzCon.
