This.

And anything new about the Church of the Holy Light, and the status of the Silver Hand?

So apparently, it's not even out until the 1st of October. How the heck did you folks get your hands on it?

And it is even worth it?

All right, I've got the book here and I'll answer any specific questions about it that folks want to ask.

And before you ask about the timeline, I feel like it would be unethical to just transcribe the thing within a week of the book's release. If the mods say that there isn't an issue then I'll be happy to do it.

Red face

I really don't get why some of you were so hyped about this book and lore from it. The scans from official preview at battle.net had only artworks (most of these artworks aren't exclusive to the visual guide and are pretty old) and tiny boxes of text that had no new lore. But I still have some hopes for the tmeline.

No, the nightelves section is mostly about the characters, even the war of the ancients were covered in one page. Nothing new in the naga section beside the highborne Azshara.

No, beside saying Rommath was shocked by Kael's betrayal.

No, pretty much everything any casual lore fan would have known. Alterac, Kul Tiras and Stromgrade didn't even have its own section, Alterac only got mentioned in the part of Second War and Deathwing. Arathor isn't mentioned either.

The uncorrupted Furbolgs were insular, fear to contact the outside, that's all.

I don't think there is any, since there is little new lore.

I think the most interesting lore of the guide is: It almost 100% confirmed Kel'Thuzad was still there because his status was "Undead" rather than "Deceased" like other defeated enemies, including undead. It also mentioned in the end that "Kel'Thuzad cannot be killed until his phylactery, the container that holds his spiritual essence, is destroyed." Rivendare's background story in RPG was confirmed here, and said he could not be fully destroyed with K'T still around there.

On the flip side, unless KT got smarter and hid the thing the Alliance are the dumbest people in existence.

If you don't want to straight up copy it, then maybe paraphrase? TIMELINE!

Thumbs down

Slowpoke is the favorite person and man of the hour! Now, let's see the important Grackley parts...

. . .

. . .

. . .

. . .

Note that the First War does end at Year 5 instead of Year 4, solidifying Rosenberg's presentation of there being no large gap between the wars. I don't really have a strong opinion on that. Except... unless...

. . .

. . .

The First War has a beginning at Year 0 and an end at Year 5. Note that the Second War, in contrast, only has a note at Year 6 - and the full description is basically the endgame, with the battle at Blackrock Spire being mentioned in the very first sentence. It is therefore solidified that the war lasted no more than a year--probably the same few months as established by ToD--followed by a large gap in time where nothing happens, before the Invasion of Draenor in Year 8.

. . .

. . .

The Battle of Grim Batol (presumed Year 10) and end of the Orc & Human Wars--the final event that broke the Old Horde's viability as a military presence--is not important enough to be mentioned.

. . .

. . .

. . .

Yeah, I knew it was a longshot. But I had hoped we'd get a vague "First War begins" on Year 0 and then another "Second War begins" on Year 6, so I could plausibly justify a headcanon of all the Orc & Human Wars being connected without the huge year gaps of peace between them. First War being 0-5, Second War being 6-8, War for the Portal and its aftermath being 8-10 where it all ends at Grim Batol. But no. It was too much of a longshot.

I'm. I'm going to my room to cry. And to play with my papier mâché Ogre Juggernaughts.
