Share your favorite artwork. And I mean sculptures and paintings and junk, not something made online.

Big Goya fan here. I had the privilege to see some of his work, though this particular painting was not among them.

Also got to see this clock when I was in Prague, not a sculpture but definitely a work of art.

Two high-res images of Stefan the Great.

Won 46 out of 48 battles with the Ottomans and built a church after each victory. Badass mofo.

At the local art museum. It's about 9' square. Called Enassamishhinjijweian (wut?) by Tom Uttech.

So much detail. Rembrandt had this (for that timeperiod) unique way of painting light (look at the little girl, she kind of has the main role in the painting because of the lighting that makes here stand out).

Orb of Venom

I love that painting. Partly because this exists because of it:

Duchamp was a lot funnier than his imitators, to be fair.

Hrabanus Maurus' figure poems are ducking amazing not necessarily for their aesthetic but rather their technical and geometric beauty.

If we're talking old-timey poetry we best be talking Catullus. Although, Hrabanus was kinda like a medeival Shel Silverstein.

Like most westerners, I'm only familiar with Bizhad of Herat thanks to My Name is Red. Even so, I enjoy the scope and detail of miniaturist painting, the way they suggest an entire world. I do not like them as much as the work of, say, Breughel the Elder (Breughel adds a liveliness that is lacking in Islamic or East Asian miniature), but this is still sublime in its own right.

Of course, there's some question as to whether or not Bizhad truly did this particular image. Most artists of that milieu did not sign their work.

I've slowly started appreciating purely visual art forms more and more over the past few years. I'm still nowhere near so into painting and sculpture as I am into fiction and interactives, but I've at least reached the point where I can usually identify why lauded art is lauded.
