Ayup. So would I. There were several potential outcomes that could have ended with him surviving, but I guess Blizzard weren't the company to execute them. /shrug

3. The Thunder Trolls. I refuse to call them Zandalari because they are not the benevolent pinkskins we saw hung out with in expansions past. All that tacked-on villainy looks really out of place and unoriginal.
Vol'jin should have died here.

Illidan's story with Tyrande and Furion ended with TFT. After that campaign, there was no way Illidan would ever be able to live with or work with them again. And he could never go back to Kalimdor.

I think him being the fallen lord of Outland, hiding from Kil'jaeden was okay. I just think the way they made him a crazy megalomaniac was stupid.

I thought he was dead, but I could buy him not being dead.

Furion and Tyrande's stories are stale because Tyrande and Furion's stories are stale. They need more to do, and to be in charge of more things. Cataclysm was the perfect opportunity, and I think Furion did okay, but Tyrande did NOTHING.

It was a global crisis, it would have made perfect sense for Tyrande to be leading forces in Darkshore or Ashenvale or Felwood or Hyjal. She's a warrior and a general, not a politician. And her one scene is her welcoming Genn.

Gah. That expansion is such wasted potential.

I suppose, maybe, we can pull the "Druids are just Highborn of a different flavor" card, Azshara mocking Malfurion, ect, but I think that starts to get a bit too on the nose. Tyrande.. is much harder. She doesn't really have anywhere to go. Nowhere to grow into. It's a typical problem with "immortal" characters, but in her case it's especially bad. I think, character wise, Elune being a Naaru is probably a good thing, as long as it doesn't result in her looping around to be exactly as she is now, only with Naaru instead of Elune. A crisis of faith could be good for her.
She wouldn't have a crisis of faith. She is not a weak woman. If Azshara rose, Tyrande and Furion would be there to fight her. Not everything has to be melodrama to be a good story.

It would be really hard for them to write Arthas/Ner'zhul fighting for control of the Lich King/Arthas' body without it coming across as something that was really cheesy and forced.
Wait, why would they be fighting for control? Their goals are aligned. And the Scourge don't fight each other for power.

They'd be speaking, thinking and acting in tandem. Then I think for the boss battle, you start to see the two souls splintering. Arthas focusing on some martial fighting portions, with Ner'zhul doing some spell-casting/summoning portions.

Then they could do the whole Diablo thing with Ner'zhul possessing the broken Bolvar, and them being forced to encase him in ice to keep him trapped or something. I dunno.

I think the pieces of the Wrath storyline are okay, the broad strokes, but the individual components just kinda suck.

Yeah, this is how I interpreted the FT ending.

Would have been nice to explore something like the system in FF MMOs where the regions you lived in were the big deal. I mean, hey, wouldn't it have been nice if you could choose to be a human from Stormwind, Gilneas or Kul Tiras, or an orc from the Laughing Skull, Shadowmoon or Thunderlord clans? It would be a good way to feature alternative skins for different races (especially trolls) without having to offer an explanation. Hell, maybe they could use regional/racial flags with greater frequency. The "I remember you and the things you did for me" moments in any game are the kind of thing I play for.

I still think they should adopt The Secret World's system. You pick a faction, but you can still do anything together aside from Battleground PvP and visit headquarters. Oh and there's some faction specific quests.

No, it's death to the Legion. I think the motto for Varian is either "Fuck you, Varian!" (Garrosh, via this awesome Wordpress blog) or "Hail to the High King!" (Everyone else). Maybe.

I hear he has a descendent who simply refuses to take the throne.

As if he had the capability to take the throne if he wanted to

That's how I'd like it to be done, personally. Segregating players by faction in PvE neutral content is balls. I've argued against it before and admit I was wrong back then.

Oh good grief.

Tell me, people, honestly: How much did the comics get right, versus what they got wrong?

Works for me. Now if only they'd gone with that in the first place.

It wouldn't be a faction per say. It would just be the player base. An Orc could go to Stormwind but would need to gain reputation to do things there. It would be be no different than going from hated to exalted currently.

I think the alpha of WoW had something like this, I remember seeing a screenie of a very early version having orcs and humans running around together.

Here's the full set. They aren't in the right order and imgur won't let me create albums, but here they are.

That would make so much more sense. Saying "fuck you" to tons of defeated and angry trolls is not a great idea. It would make Vol'jin something of a martyr and force Horde to act upon it. It would also paint the Troll union in a more negative light. They are not restoring themselves as a society, but rather trying to attack Alliance and the Horde.

Might be Darkspear will get other named characters etc. Though personally I like Vol'jin enough, for me to think he lived past his expiration date.

That's a long list. Troggs, gnolls, kobolds, murlocs, centaur, trolls, arakkoa, vrykul, magnataur, elementals... anyone I missed?
