I was assuming that Azshara raised the atmospheric pressure of her giant bubble to match the water pressure surrounding it. But it's open on the top isn't it? So I guess you're right, it's not a bubble but a Moses like opening in the sea.

I wonder if magical effort depends on the corresponding physical effect. If it does, she must be surpassingly potent to be able to hold the oceans back.

Except that animals in the region would not have been able to do so, given how quickly the waters parted.

If they had had the time to do so, the Horde and Alliance fleets would also have managed to escape mostly unscathed.
