Default Back in time

Through a series of hilarious (by 90s movie standards) hijinks, you are sent back in time. However, you can choose to bring one of the items from this list. Which do you pick?

Actually I'd take anything but the flying whale. I hate whales. Disgusting, slimy, cold-blooded, mucus-covered marine invertebrates who just keep drinking all our water. One day you'll go down to the beach and find that the ocean is gone because your precious whales have drank it all. What'll you say then, huh, what'll you say then, whale-lovers?

You don't understand. You need the flying whales in order to save the world. Here, it's all explained in this documentary.

Here's another video with a flying whale. In honour of Chester Brannigan.

Orb of Lightning

Choices, choices. Some would be useless of course, so let's cross those off straightaway:

gurzog
The collected works of Kevin J. Anderson
Martin Lawrence
I'll just bring nothing.

Others are simply too dangerous:

The contents of your room
ijffdrie
A pair of Klingons
A zombie virus

Still others would probably be eliminated before they could be much use:

A flying whale
A swarm of flying octopodes
The major leaders of the French Revolution

Then of course there are those to which the middle ages already ostensibly have greater or lesser access:

Oda Nobunaga
The pyramid complex at Giza
The city of Athens from just before the start of the Peloponnesian War

That leaves the following:

A full printout of Wikipedia
An armory
The cast and crew of game of thrones
All member of your nation's senate, supreme court and/or parliament
All the weird crazes (like fidget spinners and tamagotchis) from the last 30 years
Every single pope

A full print-out of Wikipedia would be a wonderful thing for pre-modern human society to have, but if I can only take a single copy I'd be seriously concerned that it would be ruined in some way before we could finish transcribing even half of it.

An armory would certainly shake things up, but the limited initial stocks make me wary. Let's put that down as a 'maybe.'

The cast and crew of Game of Thrones would probably have greater potential to influence the course of science, consisting as I suspect it does of so many humans with such varied talents and experience with the principles and applications of modern technology. Another 'maybe.'

As an American, my nation's leaders would either die too quickly to make a difference, or live long enough to make me wish they had. Let's not go with that.

Three decades of weird crazes, now - that's an interesting one. It encompasses a great deal of electronics and other modern wizardry. A strong 'maybe.'

Every single pope? You mean their earthly remains or what? Or shall we consider them to be drawn from the moment they took that highest office? And are we counting anti-popes? This option is too confusing for me to touch.

So, the choice must be between an armory, the cast and crew of Game of Thrones, and all the weird crazes from the last 30 years. On careful and deliberate reflection, I have chosen to go with the fidget spinners, tamagotchi's and others of their ilk.

So little of this list makes sense. For example... no Batman.

I can't believe I didn't notice this, but you're right. For shame, Ramses.

I'm pretty sure that Gurzog has called himself Batman more than once.
