Goddamn corporations are EVIL

http://boingboing.net/2017/04/22/drm-eschatology.html

Quote:
John Deere has turned itself into the poster-child for the DMCA, fighting farmers who say they want to fix their own tractors and access their data by saying that doing so violates the 1998 law's prohibition on bypassing copyright locks.

Deere's just reiterated that position to a US Copyright Office inquiry on the future of the law, joined by auto manufacturers (but not Tesla) and many other giant corporations, all of them arguing that since the gadgets you buy have software, and since that software is licensed, not sold, you don't really own any of that stuff. You are a licensee, and you have to use the gadget according to the license terms, which spell out where you have to buy your service, parts, consumables, apps, and so on.

As software eats the world, it's devouring the idea of private property -- "that sole and despotic dominion which one man claims and exercises over the external things of the world, in total exclusion of the right of any other individual in the universe."

The fact that the DMCA felonizes bypassing copyright locks, combined with the proliferation of copyrighted software in gadgets means that companies can turn their commercial preferences into private laws. Just design your gadget so that using is in any way apart from the official, prescribed way requires breaking a copyright lock. Now, anyone who violates your license terms is also committing a felony, punishable by five years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

For a first offense.
Soon no one will be able to own anything, only rent it from our stinking corporate overlords.

It's depressingly funny how much this conceptual situation resembles the early 20th century model.
If you've never heard about it, take a look at Bioshock Infinite's Finktown. It's a slightly exagerrated to account for technology levels, but still frighteningly correct representation of how it worked back then.

And this is why these children will not trust police for the rest of their lives.

Can you imagine that? Being 12 years old and held at gunpoint by people who are supposed to protect you for ten minutes?

That's what happens when your cops are demonized and gunned down in the streets by ''protesters'' mainly black activists. They get too anxious which leads to that situation.

They're police, it's their job to handle stress, 'their job is scaaaary!" is not a defense for holding 12 year olds at gunpoint

Your argument that protestors kill police with the regularity it would excuse something like this is horseshit.

They're people, not the fascist faceless robots they're painted as. Same for 12 year olds who can learn to shoot guns especially if they're from a rundown part of town.

They're doing a JOB. They're supposed to be professionals. They're supposed to be held to a higher standard as law enforcement if it's TOO HARD or TOO SCARY they need to quit.

EDIT:

That's a great line of thinking that absolutely won't get the police force even more undermanned than it already is.

It's easy to talk behind a desk. They did their job. Law enforcement isn't about cuddling you, especially if reports of firearms are involved.

loooooooool
Everything has gone to shit so badly for everybody that touches my airframe and so few of us are sticking around (even with SRB) that the AF is making videos and articles about it.

Other guys I know who were in on the interviews are saying how horribly they cut it to make it look better, too. This is great.

Jesus Fucking Christ. This morning I came into work to find that the only people on my shift that had showed up were me and one other guy for various stupid reasons, so I had to run shit until most of the shift slowly showed up. These chucklefucks need to get their shit together and stop depending on me. I'm not even on the schedule anymore and I had to remind everyone that I'm out in 18 fucking days.

When the waitress brings your 'English tea' but it has a slice of lemon on the side.

The US is truly a backwards country deserving only of scorn.

Fucking what? What warmth? Two days of 15+ degrees in a row does not a warm spring make.

http://victoriousvocabulary.tumblr.c...a-whole-lot-of

Why would police do this?

Quote:
Hi Tumblr Denizens.
I don’t make a whole lot of personal posts but I kinda just need to scream this out somewhere without consequence.
The gist of my story is about 4-5 days ago, I got rather drunk at a concert so I went outside to sit down and sober up.
I sat on the ground with my head in my hands because I was tired and dizzy.
2 policemen came up to me and started asking me questions in an intimidating way. I was completely silent because I was so tired and I could hear the meanness in their voice which made me retreat into myself.
They started to get louder and meaner so I pleaded with them to leave me alone, that I was fine, that I just needed 5 minutes to recover and that I’ll be on my way home.
Before I knew it they thrust my arms back and handcuffed me but because my hands are so small they slipped off so they cuffed me tighter and pulled me up and that’s when I started to struggle because in my head all I was thinking, was that these 2 large power hungry males double my size were about to drag me off somewhere when I did nothing to create the situation. They said I was under arrest, I wanted to know why and they said it was because I displayed violent behaviour, that I swore at them, that I kicked and punched them (I did not and I was handcuffed whilst I was still sitting down).
I started to struggle and cry because my mind was blazing with fear. I kept pleading with them to let me go, that they were abusing their power, that I wanted to go home and that they should leave me alone.
I was publicly humiliated in front of everyone, dragged and thrown into a van where I spent the night in a cell. They took away my belongings, they demanded the password to my phone. They accused me of displaying violent behaviour when all I did was go outside to sit down on the ground.
I am now facing being charged with assaulting the police even though I am innocent of that crime. To be deprived of my freedom when I did nothing wrong was bad enough. To be accused of a crime I did not commit and to be punished for it on a long term scale is even worse.
