You could say that about most of Warcraft's characters.

Snaggletooth Gul'dan is the only true Gul'dan.

I for one love how absolutely "Illidan" that move was. There's just no other way to describe it.

Someone from reddit posted it, apparantly he walks towards his death or something and you can kill people while using him. Not sure if he talks.

I hope Grommash from AU draenor shows up and Permakills Mannoroth while dying himself like in wc3 Think that would make people like him more.

Altough i think people would still bitch about it not being MU Gromm.

I want the draenor forces to come to argus too but it is not likely to happen .

Oh, I'm not suggesting we shouldn't go to Argus and deal with the threat at its source. It's just that we arguably already were going there. From Velen's own lips we heard his intent to get the Exodar fully operational and take the fight to the Legion. He was already done with running and hiding and ready to go stomp the Legion in his old backyard, and since receiving Turalyon's message Khadgar would be right on board with the idea.

But Illidan, being Illidan, is one to naturally assume nobody else cares about the threat as much as he does and that his allies will all treat the latest victory as permission to go home and ignore the Legion again, so instead of making his case he just dumps Argus on our heads right now without consulting anyone.

Which admittedly has always been his thing; he never starts by presenting a solution and trying to convince anyone. He starts by unilaterally taking action, then gets angry when everybody else reacts appropriately to the consequences.

Yes, ARM, you're right.

That doesn't make him less interesting or the story more dumb. It's still all levels of awesome.

Oh indeed, I have no problem with this being a direction in the story (the mechanics of such a portal raise some issues, but that's not a characterization matter) and it feels like a reasonable continuance of Illidan as he's always been.

It only becomes an issue if Khadgar, Velen and Co. don't consider it grounds to keep a closer eye on Illidan in case he decides to pull another outrageous stunt while on Argus itself.

Characters acting according to their established characterization is never a problem; all of the other characters just plain ignoring it is. Forsaken effectively being outright villains, Kael'thas' followers being hostile to all players despite blood elves being in the Horde, Illidan being obnoxiously Illidan; these things are all fine as long as the people around them react to them naturally.

I think (read: hope) that now that Khadgar has seen how dangerous Illidan can be, he will keep a closer eye on him rather than trust him (as he has with just about everyone who isn't covered in fel energy since WoD). I would greatly love to see Maiev just tear Khadgar a new one about trusting someone with such a long criminal history isn't just stupid, it's astronomically retarded.

Imagine this with the mustache guy as WoW's racial leaders and Quagmire as Illidan:

Khadgar: Oh, Illidan, you rascal!
Illidan: *shrugs and smiles*

It looks more like a link between where Argus is and where Azeroth is located. A giant portal if you will. I don't think Argus was moved.

Also, I love Illidan so much

Some would say too much. I was mad about Black Temple and that was only alleviated when Metzen said he loved a good redemption story in response to someone at Blizzcon asking if Illidan was coming back. Then I waited several years and Legion came. I have lots of Illidans all over my house: the giant statue, the dark moon faire TCG mat, the novel, the HotS figure, various tshirts, SDCC Exclusive Pop and regular Pop, the cute but deadly illidan, SDCC Warglaives, and likely more that doesn't come to mind. I am very happy in this love as well (unless they may him a straight up villain we kill in a raid again).

I don't think my husband would allow that level of obsession. I love me some anti-villains, though.

And I'm embarrassed to admit that I have a character who is in love with Illidan, or rather, her idea of who he is. Good girls love bad boys and all that BS.

There's a certain appeal in Rp and fiction as a whole for bad/unlikely concepts executed well

Every time I log into SoL I learn that it is possible to respect other human beings even less than I do right now. It's like I keep lowering my expectations within a bottomless pit.

We're a site where a memorable point in history was over a lamp post.

I call BS on that expectation getting any lower.
