Default Most underrated game of all time.

/Discuss

I believe it is Anarchy Online. One of the oldest games ever, and it gets universal hatred just cause its company is associated with AOC. You know what? AO Dev team =/= AOC Dev team. Same company, different people. In fact I heard one of the devs for AOC got fired for all the crap in the game.

AO may have came out with a few fatal bugs but FC managed to fix them in 6months, it has some problems(level locking instances) but nothing new. In fact once it goes through a Runescape-esque overhaul(the devs are planning to do to their game what was done to the original RS) no one will complain again! Of course they're fixing their bugs right now, but 2015 here we come!

Ogre Battle 64, and to a lesser degree Ogre Battle : March of the Dark Queen, but 64 is the standout for me.

I loved the battle system in the game.

I was actually toying with an idea for a game with similar mechanics, then reality took hold and I realized I, by myself, won't get far in that endeavor.

I found a copy of MotDQ in a store up in Salem. They only wanted $80 for it... Thank god I have held onto 64.

Lionhead Studios Black and White comes to mind.

Oh, and VTM: Bloodlines is still one of the best RPG's I've ever played.

I think Threads of Fate is a pretty unappreciated game, as is Rise of Legends.

EDIT:

Holyfucking God, I agree with Fojar on Mystical ninja, what bizzare universe have we stumbled into?

100 times better than Diablo 2, being released at the same time, more or less.

Just look at it and when it was released, it's a goddamn masterpiece and a technical beauty. Water even reflected stuff during the DirectX 7 age.

The stupid publisher ruined it releasing it too fast and without decent marketing.

Another game I loved: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hob...003_video_game)

It's simply awesome, lacks a way to return to completed episodes, and the "collecting" system needed to be shown outside its episode, so you could watch all your records in a single screen.

If you can try any of those two, do. They're goddamn good.

During the 8-bit age, Spain produced a lot of great videogames, like these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Abada_del_Crimen and http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Simbel,_Profanation (es). They had a lot of recognition inside and outside, but publishing problems didn't let them spread, with only collector foreigns getting it outside Spain.

Also, not too underrated, but this classic of strategy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Command...Men_of_Courage is awesome as hell, but not too many people knows it.

In the US, most of the SMT games. I'm not sure how popular they are in their home country but aside from the last two Persona games they haven't gotten an enormous mount of attention over here. They're some of the few games I've seen that actually play to the strengths of the JRPG genre.

LucasArts' The Dig. One of my favorite horror games, but it's time spent in development hell and a few bad puzzles ruined it for a lot of people.

I like you, you can date Bolvar`s sister

Kind of bad since both games have clear sequel hooks, Threads ended with a new doll beign awakened, Ruenis staying with Claire and Rue and Mint embarking to retrieve the relic.

Rise of Legends ended with the vinci being united for the first time under Lenora, the Alin empire being restored and thinking of expanding and the Cuotl talking about the return of the gods.

For me an underrated game would and certainly is

Great gameplay, even better story, memorable sountrack and a campaing that was revolutionary for its time due to its branching nature

Skids taps Megatron's Autobot badge.

Skids: Right. There. What does that badge even mean to you? How has wearing it forced you to modify your behaviour? I'm serious! How has being an Autobot in any way prevented you from doing exactly what you want? Because if the answer is "it hasn't"—then nothing you've said or done in the last six months counts for anything.

I don't know. I've playing it the last few days and don't really like it that much. Character creation is the best part, maybe. Or it's just me and my hatred to MMOs (as I've stated tons of times, I only play WoW because it's Warcraft).

I do think it's underappreciated, it's got a good storytelling(fully voice-acted!), logical progression, great variety of weapons and powers, great setting, active and reactive combat(dodging, blocking, stunning, breaking out) and actually made healing fun. It's got solo, duo, group(4) and raidcontent, all with appropriate tiers.
I hope it gets the playerbase it deserved now that it's free2play.

Im sure most people here would like it, and I say its somewhat popular among the more "hardcore" gamer community. But among The general populace I think Parasite Eve/2 are very underrated. Unless they are also pretty big RPG gamers, almost no one has heard of it. It was my first RPG at about 9, and while there were things I realized years later that would have been obvious had I been older, the first one was generally easy enough to understand and not too demanding. The second would've been easily understandable by your average consumer.

From what Ive heard, 3rd Birthday was a terrible addition to the line. No PSP for me to find out though.
