Blizzcon has finally been officially announced with dates, and they're a lot later than normal: November 8th and 9th.

Ugh. If the last few years of my schooling are anything to go on that may overlap with my fall semester finals. Shit.

What, no Legacy of the Void? Also, I think (hope?) All Stars will be out by then.

I think that people are expecting Legacy of the Void to take at least two years. Course it would be nice if it was shorter.

One thing I'm wondering.

BC was announced Spt 11 2006
Released Jan 16 2007

5 months

Wrath was announced August 3 2007
Released November 23 2008

17 months

Cataclysm Announced August 21 2009
Released Dec 7 2010

16 months

MoP announced Oct 21 2011
Released September 25 2012

11 months

So if the next expansion is announced on November 6, that means there is a good chance we won't see it for another year. (I say "good" not 100%)
And if 5.4 is going to be the last raid patch, that would mean we will have another year of of SoO, which wouldn't altogether surprise me, but wouldn't make me very happy either.

So either they will announce the expansion sooner, and treat blizzcon much like the press event they did in march for MoP, 5.4 will not be the final raid patch, or maybe the release date will be very soon after it's announcement. The only problem with the last one is the beta. Thoughts?

5.4 - last raid patch.
~6.0 will be released in spring 2014.

We have to start gathering questions to ask Blizzard at the event for Q&A.

I'm having trouble remembering but did they ever even make a fuss out of Heart of the Swarm? I remember being surprised at how very little they talked about it. It seems like it was more of a handwave-y "Oh yeah, we already told you we were doing this years ago so just wait for it and we'll give details later" rather than "here's a super awesome announcement trailer" like they've done with other Blizzcon announcements.

I do suspect we'll see a Diablo 3 expansion announcement though. WoW is tricky - they tend to alternate but then they skipped Blizzcon last year. I'm gonna go with "no" if only because there are a lot of other potential announcements this year (esp if Titan is actually ready to be announced formally). But the timeline of typical expansion announcements does match up, so *shrug*

BC was announced in October 2005, so 15 months. You also have to keep in mind that the gaps between the expansion announcements and the previous expansion release were much smaller for all expansions. Basically X5 will be announced almost 14 months after MoP release, they will probably have A LOT to show and the beta might start a couple of months after the announcement.

November date has more to do with WCG, they announced last year that they will hold the finals at Blizzcon so October date was probably pushed to November to give them enough time for all the regional finals and stuff.

It's not even spring, yet the expansion will come out in spring of 2014. That's a hell of a long time.

Well, for the last few expansions the main patch cycle has been done within a year, with minor updates chugging along until the new expansion comes about a year after that. So not unusual at all.
