Ah, my mistake.

Does that seem like a more nuanced inspiration?

Yeah. They may be inspired by the Knights Templar, but their aesthetic better reflects the Teutonic Order.

He wants to end the eternal conflict by killing off mortals, wich he sees as the last demonic faction

I second that. Seeing what happened to the Diablo 1 heroes in D2 really improved the connection between the two games. I was disappointed when I realized we don't see or hear from most of them in D3. To think that powerful mortals like them would just vanish...

And since I'm into the subject these days: how do you explain lore-wise that the nephalem heroes of D3 are not nearly as powerful as Uldyssian and his edyrem?

I'm probably too late, but...

Any plans for Gamepad-support or WASD-controls for PC in the future?

Well, interview's over! Got to ask only 3 questions.

Note: I'm paraphrasing here, these are not the literal answers. Will transcribe everything at the hotel.

1. They won't add more companions, but they want to explore the ones we got much more. More dialogue and also side quests! One little spoiler: we will meet the Scoundrel's brother!

2. Besides Westmarch, we will explore the Blood Marches and the place where Tyrael wanted to hide the Soulstone. Oh, and also we'll go to Pandemoniun Fortress. Oh, and on another note: exterior zones are randomized now!

3. Necromancers... Well, no details, buuut there will be an event dealing with them. Necromancers are drawn to death and Maltheal surely did upset the balance necromancers protect.

Will transcribe the other questions by the other teams later.

Westmarch, Bloodmarch... ten bucks say the Bloodmarch is just the Westmarch after Malthaels forces took a bloody crap on them.

Flash Fact: i'd actually reinstall the game for a Necromancer Class and try it out. I want a class like that in WoW badly.

Good, because somehow the companions surpassed all the major and player characters in terms of "most interesting characters of the game."

That because you actually learn something about them and see them change. Your character is pretty much the same they were when you started as when you ended. I was disappointed when the Barbarian didn't have any sort of special dialog when we visited Mount Arreat.

Yeah, they were just about the only characters in the game that did not completely seem like one-dimensional cardboard cut-outs, including amongst Tyreal, Leah, Adria, Rita Repulsa, or any given demonic villain. Our own characters felt like Mary/Gary Sues.

I miss the days of Diablo 1 when demonic corruption, terror, and madness felt like threats to which the hero could succumb. Diablo 2 lost much of this feeling, but Diablo 3 just came out and said to the character "You're God and everything revolves around you!" And to think, the companions are probably the closest to the Diablo 1 characters: warrior, mage, and rogue.

The interview is now online. I will need help with the transcription.

There were areas I totally couldn't get right. English isn't my first language, and the noise plus their talking fast and with different pitches trails me off from what they are saying. At times I had to skip a paragraph or two.

Can someone help transcribe past minute 11:00? Someone double check / correct what's already written for accuracy. I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Wasn't this always the case? Maybe I don't know what you mean by "randomized"

The corpses, dungeons and items, yes. The map was always the same, afaik.

In Diablo 3, the layout of exterior terrain is always the same.
Take this for example:

The path will never change on any playthrough, only some events may change up. Maybe a little extra room here or there. Completly different than the dungeons. And it's the same for all the other exterior places, even if they are bigger.

They mentioned how this gave a great sense of location (So, Old Tristram is always northeast of New Tristram!), but in the end, it is far less random if you compare it to Diablo 2. And they emphasized how they want to fix that by making the exterior zones more randomized.

Of course, it's all talk until we see it ingame.
