Default Any idea as to why Hunter is the most played class?

Pets are sooo cute. Teehee.

They're also (mostly) easy to play and very forgiving.

My guess for why:

1. It's strong for solo play. Deals ranged damage, wears the heaviest armor of any ranged class, has a pet for support/tanking/more DPS as needed, and has decent mobility and a bag of tricks to get out of trouble.

2. It's always been available to a majority of races, and has only expanded as time went on. Come Legion, it will be available to every race, and will be the only ranged class to ever be available to every race.

Easy to play.

Good solo.

Ranged focus.

Quick levelling.

A lot of escapes that let the PvP cowards flee (see: Ashran).

Taming pets is a unique and fun mechanic.

As a tank, this class is my sworn enemy (Even though I love gnomes finally getting to be hunters). So many horrible memories.

A lot of people gloss over the fact that having a constant companion with you in the form of your pet alleviates some of the loneliness. It's your partner in the adventure. It also helps that you get to CHOOSE your pet which adds to the player's affection for it.

This is different from warlocks given that you don't name or choose the pet and you have moves that sacrifice your pet so that you may live which fits into the warlock vibe.

That auto-target and shoot bug didn't help matters any.

Because with pets it's pretty easy to play. For PvP I prefer SPriest, but even vs a hunter, they could die easily... If the hunter is pro

Because of the pet-taming mechanism, and each expansion adding a wide array of new animals, hunters are guaranteed to get something new every expansion.

Hunter's also have a unique niche. They are the only ranged that isn't heavily magic oriented. Plus the only class to use crossbows/guns/bows as a focus.

What others have said, plus I'll add in that they're one of the best farming classes and always have been. I do almost all of my farming on my hunter and it's just so much easier than other classes.
