Mana Starbound (Space Terraria)

Now that all the races have been revealed and the beta draws nearer, I guessed it was time to create a thread for Starbound.

If you want to learn more about the game, visit the Roadmap.

Anyways, I guess it's not really that exciting, considering that it's a 2D game, but the few who liked Terraria, and some of those who like Minecraft, will probably appreciate it.

2D Minecraft in space with 5 races, including robots.

If anyone bothers to read this thread, here's an update:

Spaceships getting upgrades.

And another:

Actually, I know the developer from the Terraria IRC Chatroom.

I'm really looking forward to Starbound because I'm a big fan of Terraria and SMBX (previous games made by Redigit, the developer) I even run a pretty big forum dedicated to them.

It's a shame that Terraria, for PC, isn't getting any new updates.

Um, it is? Terraria 1.2 is coming 'soon', 'soon' meaning in two or three months considering how lazy Redigit is.

He uploaded something a few days ago, a new theme song actually. I've been pestering him on the IRC but no replies.

Yeah, just looked and saw that video. I'm still more excited for Starbound than 1.2, though.

I liked terraria but it was kind of too easy to get to the endgame gear cap.

In 1.6 yes, but they fixed that with 1.1 in my opinion. Hardmode certainly took a while to complete.

I could never beat the Soul bosses eventrough I tried various strategies that worked in youtube videos and had the best armour and weapons of the game till that point.

EDIT:For some reason I can't find the terraria thread that I was sure it existed. So i'm gonna post this here until I find that thread.

The guy that makes terraria is making a "create your own npc" contest to be implemented in the game.

Here was my suggestion

Quote:
APPEARANCE: A long white haired man dressed like an hatless and barefoot cowboy with a pet near him(hawk in his arm? parrot on his shoulder? Slime on his hair?). During the nights of full moon he would transform into an Albino Werewolf with a large fluffy tail wearing a brown vest. (pants not necessary)
PURPOSE: He would sell, store, re-colour pets and other pet-related stuff. He would be called the Tamer.
ACQUISITION: Find him tied as an werewolf and surrounded by other werewolves during a full-moon after the player has found a pet.
DIALOGUE: Is bipolar and is constantly changing between angry rants like those army guys that scream a lot and call his pets maggots and an childish cutie sensitive guy that take really good care of pets. When in werewolf form it makes constant allusions to jealousy of other werewolves for his fluffy tail, and expresses extreme interest in raw meat.
NAMES: Werewolfy, like: Lobo, Lupus, Canis, Moonlight, Silverstreak, things like that.
COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT: As far as I'm aware it's originally.

I know, it's like the one in Terraria, but it's still kinda great, and I like the music.

How is it not like the one in Terraria? It may not be like the first one, but it's like the vine and the other improved hook. (With a small improvement, perhaps.)

The Terraria grapple hook pulls you towards the wall independent of physics. Starbound grapple takes physics into account and allows for swinging.

Yeah, that'd be the small improvement. I mean, I like it, but it's still mostly the same thing.

Mostly the same thing on the fact that they are both grapples that attach to walls...

On how they work they work after shooting its completely different. It can bend, swing and takes both gravity and elasticity into account.

The difference is almost as minute as those between lampposts. Almost.

Since we have no Terraria thread, I'll post this here.

1.2 is really great.

As you can see in the attachment, it is now possible to change the shape of the blocks. (That's my first outpost. The poor guide will probably die, again...)

That looks cool, but I think the crimson is too close for him to inhabit that house. Right now I'm upgrading the House in my storage world to fit with the new items. Kinda of a long job.
