Default Zandalar runemasters?

http://www.wowhead.com/npc=52962

Zandalari Archon's seem to runemasters. If I am correct this is the first time I have heard of them within their ranks. Then again being the scholars they are it is not unusual for them to have learnt it over the years.

Anyone think their is anything significant about this?

They definitely seem similar, but, well, they don't really use runes, now do they? I'd imagine sigils are the term used for individual characters in the Zandali language, so it depends on whether or not a runemaster must literally use characters from a runic alphabet or not. Otherwise I guess they're just martial scribes.

"Archon" is a Greek word meaning "Ruler" or "Lord."

This doesn't help much. I'm just throwing that out there.

Hey, I'm the one on this forum who flexes his linguistic muscle around here. I'M the one who gets to define terms.

They put a variety of elemental sigils on you that they can then "shatter" for burst damage. Fire, frost and shadow, so it seems they're some kind of arcane spellcaster.

According to the RPG, sigils, glyphs, and runes are all basically the same, the names just refer to how and where they're used. The Inscriber and even Ley Walker are somewhat connected to the Runemaster class.

They're all just reproductions of naturally occuring patterns that contain and direct magical energy. On a smaller scale, these patterns provide the strength of a shell or swiftness of flowing water, and on a larger scale they form the ley lines that direct currents of arcane energy through Azeroth.

Basically a magical "fantasy version" of fractal geometry.

They're the "natural" and "correct" way to influence arcane energy, and as such are not corrupting like magic is.

Well, considering that it's currently the only source for runemaster lore, I should hope that 100% of the people in a thread about runemasters would pay attention to it.

There are 3 kinds of Zandalari in ZA. They use different names, before and after they use the "Glory of the Zandalari" spell, but they are distinctly Priest, Mage and Warrior analogs. You can tell because they wear t4 and t5. The "Archon" in the picture above is the Mage type Zandalari

Thanks, anyone witha troll character know what they all chant when they fight?

I've got no troll character high enough to see.

It's got alot of... "Whutless" in the untranslated version.

I remember this one (paraphrased):
Ancients of Zandalar, mark dem' for da black road!

Other stuff they talk about... All troll tribes are in danger, the "tides of darkness" (interesting name) is gonna take over them, how Azeroth's breaking hasn't ended yet (more cataclysmic events to come in the future), Zul has seen the future and has the salvation and something among those lines.

Since they make references to the "Tides of Darkness" and more cataclysmic events to come in the future, I will make a guess and say they gonna be enemies of the Naga in the South Seas expansion.

They keep mentioning those so-called "Ancients" of Zandalar in their spells. I wonder if that is a confirmation for the Ancient/Loa debate (since the Zandalari are the most intelligent troll tribe, is quite possible that they have discovered the true identity of the Loa).

Yeah, I thought that it is the threat of Azshara that forced them to gather all tribes, the naga will be their possible doom so they have to defend themselves.

About those sigil, before they can chain their cast, they have to buff themselves with a cast called " Ancient power " , so mmm well... ?

You piqued my curiousity.
Luckily, there's a PTR. Luckily you can change races on the PTR. Luckily mages are still beyond Blizzard's reach.
So I eavesdropped on a Zandalari Hierophant in ZA. Screens:

I also managed to kill him (what did I say about mages?) and upon reaching 50% the Hierophants say: "Ancients of Zandalar, grant dis on da ability ta' mock death itself!". They use Ancient Power, Sanctify and after gaining Glory of the Zandalari Ancient Guardian.
I'll see if I can find a lone Juggernaut or Archon somewhere.
Juggernaut: "Ancestors be beside me, let 'dem hear yo' voice!"
No dice in soloing an Archon, the damage is ridiculous

I never got the impression that the Zandalari were tapping into "ancients", IE, the big night elf animal demigods, but just tapping into "ancient" power, as in an adjective, as in "really old", since the trolls are, well, really old.

Don't think it's the Night Elven ancients either, sounds, like you said, more like the spirits of really ancient Troll heroes / paragons and gods.
Glory of the Zandalari tooltip says: Calls upon the favor of ancient Zandalari gods. Unlocks additional abilities.
